Installation Technician II

The Opportunity

The Installation Technician II position is responsible for the successful installation, setup, configuration, and basic troubleshooting of multifunction printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and related office technology equipment. This position works independently to complete standard installations, connect devices to customer networks, configure printing and scanning workflows, perform operational testing, and provide end-user training. The technician serves as a key customer-facing representative and collaborates with internal teams and customer IT personnel to ensure a seamless deployment experience.

What You Will Need to be Successful

• · Install, configure, and test copiers, printers, plotters, MFPs, and finishing equipment at customer location
• · Configure network settings, IP addressing, print drivers, and scan destinations
• · Set up print, scan, and workflow functionality according to customer requirements
• · Perform firmware updates and device configuration activities
• · Troubleshoot and resolve installation-related hardware, software, and connectivity issues
• · Coordinate with customer IT staff to ensure successful network integration
• · Conduct customer orientation and end-user training on device operation and features
• · Complete installation documentation and customer acceptance records accurately for each installation
• · Maintain compliance with company installation standards, safety requirements, and service procedures

Product & Hardware

• - Multifunction Printers (MFPs), printers, plotters, scanners and related peripherals
• - Printer engine components and finishing equipment (mailboxes, staplers, folders, hole-punch units)
• - Device setup, assembly, and installation procedures
• - Print controller technologies and firmware management

Networking & Connectivity

• - TCP/IP networking fundamentals
• - DHCP, DNS, subnetting, and IP addressing
• - Wireless print technologies
• - Print drivers and deployment methods
• - Print server concepts
• - Scan-to-email, Scan-to-folder, and Scan-to-cloud configurations
• - Network security fundamentals related to printing environments

Software and Systems

• - Windows and Mac desktop and server environments
• - Active Directory fundamentals
• - Printer/fleet management software (Papercut MF, Papercut HIVE, MyQ, UniFlow)

Requirements

Troubleshooting Skills

• - Ability to identify connectivity and configuration issues.
• - Ability to identify hardware, software, and network-related issues.

Customer Service Skills

• - Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users
• - Conducting end-user training
• - Managing customer expectations
• - Handling installation-related concerns or problems professionally

Organizational Skills

• -Planning and coordinating installation workflow while at customer location
• - Managing installation of devices across multiple locations 
• - Completing installation documentation accurately
• - Maintain car inventory stock and installation materials
• - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• - Ability to adapt to changing schedules

Travel: Candidates are expected to travel to and from customer locations daily. Candidates will be expected to travel up to 2 hours from their home location regularly. Occasionally candidates will be expected to perform overnight travel if customer location is over 2 hours away from their home location.

Required education or experience

• -Experience working within a customer support department supporting the technical needs of clients such as office equipment repair, IT, manufacturing equipment, service-based business or related industry preferred but not required.  
• -Superior communication skills and strong attention to detail 
• -Excellent listening skills 
• -Highly efficient phone skills 
• -Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills 
• -Strong systems skills including Excel, Microsoft office 
• -Proven track record of customer service excellence 
• -Strong email and writing skills 
• -Knowledge of advanced print management platforms (e.g. Papercut, MyQ, etc.) preferred but not required.  
• -2+ Years working within the Copier industry as a service technician or support technician 
• -Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required 
• -Capable of lifting and moving loads up to 50 pounds.

Physical demands

• · Frequently stand and walk for extended periods while performing equipment installations at customer sites
• · Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach while assembling, positioning, and configuring equipment
• · Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, components, tools, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
• · Regularly climb stairs and navigate customer facilities, warehouses, and office environments.
• · Occasionally work in confined spaces or under desks and workstations to access network, power, and communication  connections
• · Regularly sit while driving to and from customer locations and completing documentation or system configurations
• · Travel regularly to customer locations and operate a motor vehicle safely while traveling to and from customer location.
