Description
The Corporate Strategy and Development (“CSD”) finance team is looking for a well-rounded, analytically strong finance leader to serve as the primary finance partner to the Systems-to-Materials (“STM”) group, while also supporting financial analysis across the broader CSD organization. STM incubates new programs that advance the CEO’s vision of moving Applied Materials up the semiconductor value chain. Working with every business unit, STM connects Applied’s materials engineering expertise to device- and system-level performance through modeling and simulation, physical test vehicles, and design enablement.
The Senior Analyst will partner directly with STM, EHS, and Core CSD leadership to drive the finance operating rhythm, provide actionable insights, and deliver financial targets, with a clear view of how each group’s investment turns into business value. Core CSD functions include Corporate Strategy & Corporate Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs, and Government Affairs. Across CSD, the Senior Analyst will help drive strategy, portfolio prioritization, complex financial analysis, and systems and process innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Business partnership and strategy
- Serve as the primary business partner and first point of contact for STM, EHS, and Core CSD leadership on all financial matters, tailoring support to each organization’s priorities.
- Perform insightful financial modeling, scenario planning, and portfolio prioritization across STM, EHS, and Core CSD, applying NPV and ROI analysis to STM R&D investments.
- Build business cases and value metrics that justify incremental spend, linking STM programs to revenue, royalties, and strategic impact, and EHS and Core CSD asks to regulatory requirements, risk mitigation, and qualitative benefits, giving leadership a clear basis for investment decisions.
Planning, forecasting, and reporting
- Own the finance operating rhythm and FP&A cycle, including the annual operating plan (AOP), strategic reviews, and quarterly forecasts; reconcile bottom-up builds to corporate targets and explain results in concise, executive-ready memos and presentations.
- Lead budget development across STM, EHS, and Core CSD, separating baseline run-rate spend from incremental asks (new headcount, vendor spend, software and EDA licenses, and capital) and clearly framing funding gaps, trade-offs, and risks.
- Manage headcount planning across a global, multi-site footprint, including headcount walks and labor cost modeling.
Systems, collaboration, and capability building
- Build and maintain finance templates, data, and processes that enable accurate, timely cost and headcount tracking, using automation tools to replace manual workflows.
- Collaborate with the extended finance team, including CSD finance, COE, regional finance, corporate finance, and business unit finance partners, and actively contribute to Global Finance projects and priorities.
- Develop self-service tools, templates, and training that help engineering and functional leaders plan spend, and build finance capability across the extended CSD finance team.
Key Qualifications
- Expert in financial planning and analysis, with advanced Excel and financial modeling skills and hands-on experience analyzing large datasets with Tableau or Power BI
- Excellent influencing and relationship skills, with a track record of partnering with senior leaders and engineering teams and constructively challenging assumptions
- Clear, concise communicator who can turn complex analysis into plain-language executive memos and presentations
- Thrives in a startup-type environment, manages ambiguity, and collaborates broadly across functions and regions
- Comfortable using AI-enabled tools (such as Microsoft Copilot) and automation to improve the speed and quality of analysis
- Experience in semiconductors, R&D environments, manufacturing, or operational roles is a strong plus
- Self-starter: passionate, curious, and eager to learn and grow
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree/MBA preferred
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in FP&A, business partnering, or related finance roles
