This opportunity also provides students with the ability to gain steam time toward their 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.

The positions will begin in May 2027 for a 4-month term, providing students with an opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world operating environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the day-to-day operation and monitoring of assigned plant equipment under the guidance of experienced operators.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety while working alongside Strathcona employees and contractors.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving operational and process-related issues.
  • Perform routine housekeeping, equipment monitoring, and basic maintenance activities.
  • Follow safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures, including hazard identification, equipment lockout, emergency response, and safe work practices.
  • Gain hands-on experience with SAGD plant operations, equipment, and processes.

Qualifications Include:

  • Currently enrolled in a second year of a Power Engineering, with successful completion of required coursework and examinations.
  • Hold a 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Hold a Power Engineering Certificate recognized in Saskatchewan or be eligible to transfer their certification to Saskatchewan.
  • Basic understanding of plant operations and processes; familiarity with SAGD facilities is considered an asset.
  • Previous industrial or operational experience is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, safety-conscious, and eager to learn.

Our summer student program provides an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience, learn from experienced operators, and develop technical skills in a SAGD operating environment. Successful summer students may be considered for future full-time employment opportunities with Strathcona Resources, based on business needs and available positions.
