A Day in the Life

The position of Assistant Controller – Benelux is part of the global controllership organization. The role is designed to support the existing Benelux controllership setup, currently consisting of a Benelux Commercial controller and an Benelux Service & Holdings controller, by helping manage recurring tasks, coordinating activities, and executing defined controllership responsibilities across the Benelux entities.

You will work closely with the controllers to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial operations, while gradually developing hands-on controllership expertise in a complex, international environment.
Together with the local controllers you will need to manage a cross-functional network of stakeholders to ensure the aforementioned objectives can be achieved. You will be expected to work from the Heerlen office two days per week and will report to the Northern Europe Regional Controller.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities for the Benelux entities
• Own selected recurring controllership activities and help optimize them through automation, standardization, or transition to Centers of Excellence and Shared Service Centers where appropriate
• Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, supporting documentation, and high-quality accounting records.
• Assist with the application of US GAAP and local Dutch/Belgian GAAP, while supporting controllers in monitoring accounting risks, opportunities, and open topics
• Act as a key contact for statutory audits by preparing audit schedules, responding to auditor requests, and following up on findings and open items
• Support statutory, regulatory, and statistical reporting, while coordinating with shared service centers, tax, treasury, and other finance stakeholders on cross-functional topics
• Contribute to process documentation, control and close improvement initiatives, and regional or EMEA-wide finance projects

Required Knowledge and Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2 to 5 years of experience in accounting, audit, controllership, or finance operations
• Solid understanding of balance sheet accounts, reconciliations, and statutory accounting principles
• Exposure to US GAAP and/or local statutory accounting
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in an international matrix organization
• Fluency in English; Dutch is an advantage

We value candidates with experience in SAP and financial reporting tools, as well as an interest in controllership, compliance, and finance process improvement. Experience working in a shared service or international environment would also be an asset.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
