Job Description

If you don’t do a good job of sorting your laundry, you might end up wearing mismatched socks. But at SAIF, if important documents aren’t sorted and processed properly, an injured worker might not get the benefits they need or a physician might not get paid.

SAIF’s document imaging specialists use their superior organizing skills to process thousands of pieces of mail a day—from complicated claims forms to medical provider bills to miscellaneous correspondence. They verify information and prepare documents for scanning. It’s a fast-paced job that requires patience, persistence, and an eye for detail. And it’s critical to the work we do at SAIF.

(It’s also way more interesting than sorting your socks.)

Job overview
As a document imaging specialist, you’ll work as part of a team to ensure that important workers’ compensation information is organized, prioritized, and processed according to SAIF guidelines. You’ll import data using digital scanners and optical character recognition software. You’ll check documents for accuracy, matching names with claim numbers and assigning codes.

You’ll need to be comfortable working under tight deadlines. Your duties will shift from day to day, so flexibility is important. You’ll also need to communicate well with your teammates, giving and receiving feedback when needed.

If you’re the sort of person who is organized, accurate, and calm under pressure, this job may be your perfect match. Please apply today.

Note: This is a Monday to Friday onsite position at our offices in Salem, Oregon.

Responsibilities

  • Sort and batch incoming mail, prioritizing and identifying documents. Process documents according to guidelines.

  • Prepare documents for scanning and process the batched documents through the imaging equipment. Maintain batch-processing records.

  • Conduct quality assurance checks by inspecting batch images on the computer screen. Verify document count and ensure images meet established quality standards.

  • Understand different document types based on detailed divisional taxonomies. Utilize document taxonomy knowledge to correctly identify doc type and sub-type for indexing out of at least one of a variety of queues.

  • Understand workflows in different online queues.

  • Verify claim number and name, assign category, type, and document date, and route the document electronically to recipient.

  • Monitor and perform routine maintenance for the scanning equipment to ensure continuing processing efficiency. Refer problems to the team lead or the Information Services Division as required.

  • Research missing claim or policy information on incoming mail by utilizing in-house computer applications.

  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.

  • Continually sustain the Inclusive Leadership Competencies (ILC) through the Explorer level on an annual basis.

The following qualifications are recommended:

  • Two years of successful clerical experience emphasizing data entry and independent sorting, prioritizing, and processing of various documents, preferably in a fast-paced production environment. Experience working with workers’ compensation insurance documents is preferred as is prior scanning experience.

  • High school graduation or equivalent.

  • Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered.
