Purpose of the Job:

To ensure uninterrupted availability of indirect materials, services, utilities, consumables, packaging materials, and capital goods required for plant operations through sourcing, supplier development, cost optimization, inventory control, contract management, and procurement compliance. The role is responsible for driving procurement efficiencies, supporting business growth and sustainability initiatives, and ensuring zero production disruption while maintaining the highest standards of quality, cost competitiveness, and operational excellence.

Description of main tasks:

The Incumbent is responsible for the following tasks:

1) Procurement Planning & Material Availability

• Develop procurement plans aligned with production schedules and business requirements for continous availability & timely procurement of indirect materials, consumables, utilities, packaging materials,  energy materials and services.
• Monitor demand forecasts & coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure material availability.
• Prevent production interruptions due to material shortages through proactive planning and risk mitigation.
• Manage procurement activities for CAPEX projects in line with approved budgets and project timelines.

2) Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies to achieve cost competitiveness, quality improvement, and supply continuity.
• Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard reliable suppliers by conducting systematic / periodic assessment based on various criterions such as % for rejections, quality improvement rate, timely delivery, credit terms, etc.
• To maintain a database of quality suppliers and backup of purchase with confidentiality
• To develop alternate suppliers to minimize supply risks and improve commercial leverage.
• Liase with vendor incase of any rejection for effective resolution (compensation of any loss from the vendor and obtain CAPA)
• To proactively monitor supplier performance against agreed KPIs related to quality, delivery, cost, service, and compliance by conducting supplier capability & credibility assessments, audits, and performance reviews.

3) Inventory Management

• Maintain inventory levels within approved inventory norms and working capital targets to ensure Zero line stoppage due to material shortage
• Ensure effective stock planning to avoid stockouts and excess inventory
• Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory and implement corrective actions.
• Implement inventory optimization initiatives such as Kanban, Milk Run, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), and Just-in-Time (JIT) practices etc..

4) Cost Management & Negotiation

• Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service agreements.
• Drive annual cost reduction initiatives and value engineering opportunities.
• Benchmark costs and monitor market trends to maintain competitiveness.
• Analyze Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for procurement decisions.

5) New Product or Vendor Development

• Develop new suppliers and products to support business expansion and new product launches as per market need.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Production, Process & Marketing teams for supplier qualification and product development.
• Liase with supplier to enhance qualities of existing product, to develop new product as per requirement.

6) Contract & Compliance Management.

• Prepare, review, and manage supplier contracts, agreements, and purchase terms.
• Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and approval processes.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical sourcing, and corporate governance requirements.

7) Payment Coordination & Reporting

• Verify purchase documentation, invoices, and Goods Receipt Notes (GRNs) for accuracy.
• Coordinate with Finance for timely vendor payments and reconciliation.
• Generate and present procurement MIS reports on spend, savings, supplier performance, inventory, and procurement risks.

8) Market Intelligence & Risk Management

• Monitor market trends, commodity movements, supplier developments, and emerging risks.
• Evaluate global and local supply chain dynamics affecting procurement activities.
• Develop contingency sourcing strategies to mitigate supply disruptions.

9) Sustainability, Ethics and Operational Excellence (WAM)

• Promote ethical procurement practices
• Support the organization's sustainability and ESG objectives through responsible procurement decisions.
• Participate actively in World Class Manufacturing (WCM/WAM) and continuous improvement initiative
• Drive process standardization and digitization initiatives within procurement.

Job Specifications

Professional Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related discipline).

Preferred - MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain, Operations, or Procurement

Professional Experience (how long)?

6–10 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.

In which areas?

Proven experience in indirect procurement, sourcing, supplier management, and cost optimization.

Exposure to multinational organizations preferred (not must)
