Position Summary
As VP, Head of Clinical Sciences, Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, you provide clinical leadership across a high-impact global portfolio, shaping clinical strategy, overseeing medical and scientific governance, and ensuring strong benefit–risk decisions for people in our studies. You lead and mentor clinical teams, building capability and creating an inclusive environment that supports growth and innovation. Driving excellence in clinical development plans and study designs, you help deliver high-quality evidence from early research to life cycle management, collaborating closely with internal partners to integrate patient, physician, and payer insights into development and evidence strategies.
This is a senior role for a proven clinical leader who brings deep vaccines expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for impact at scale
Responsibilities
- Provide senior clinical leadership and strategy for the Vaccines and Infectious Diseases portfolio, across early and late development stages.
- Act as the single point of clinical and medical leadership for the portfolio, guiding development and commercial teams with clear insight.
- Ensure clinical input to regulatory documents and interactions is accurate, scientifically robust, and delivered on time.
- Provide globally integrated clinical and medical governance of studies, ensuring scientific integrity and appropriate benefit–risk for participants.
- Manage and allocate clinical staff and resources across programs, aligning resourcing with portfolio priorities and agreed plans.
- Lead project oversight to secure timely, efficient, and compliant delivery of clinical activities and enhance end-to-end pipeline productivity.
- Drive innovation in clinical development, including simplified approaches, outsourced study models, and question-based trial designs where appropriate.
- Embed Clinical Trial Representativeness principles across the program to support more inclusive and relevant evidence generation.
- Strengthen cross-functional collaboration, integrating patient, physician, and payer perspectives and working with medical and epidemiology leaders on evidence plans.
- Lead talent management for clinical sciences, including recruitment, development, succession planning, and promotion of equity and inclusion.
- Sponsor the Global Clinical Community, supporting peer review and forums that share learning and best practice.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the scope of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Clinical Sciences work.
Basic Qualification
We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals:
- Medical Doctor or PhD, with deep experience in vaccines or drug development and strong therapy area expertise.
- At least 15 years’ experience in vaccines development, covering multiple stages of clinical research and development.
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience leading medical experts in academia or industry, with responsibility for teams and complex programs.
- Proven experience designing, conducting, interpreting, and reporting high-quality clinical studies, in line with Good Clinical Practice and internal controls.
- Experience providing clinical judgment and governance for late-stage programs and life cycle management activities.
Preferred Qualification

- Strong leadership capability, with a track record of inspiring teams, mentoring individuals, and allocating resources strategically.
- Advanced strategic thinking skills, able to balance complex issues and competing priorities and develop effective clinical and portfolio strategies.
- Business acumen, including understanding how clinical and resource decisions affect business outcomes and the wider organization.
- Project management experience using risk-based planning to deliver projects to agreed timelines and quality standards.
- In-depth scientific and medical knowledge of relevant vaccines, therapeutic and disease areas, and associated evidence needs.
- Experience in medical monitoring and pharmacovigilance, including appropriate escalation to specialist safety functions when needed.
- Understanding of reimbursement and market access considerations and the evidence required to support payer value and vaccine recommendations.
- Strong scientific writing skills, producing clear, accurate, and rigorous scientific communications in line with internal standards.
- Confident scientific presentation skills, able to communicate with credibility to internal and external stakeholders and experts.

• If you are based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $315,750 to $526,250. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
