Overview:

Overview

Responsible for the assessment and nutritional management, identification, diagnosis, and prevention of malnutrition in accordance with the medical staff approved clinical practice standards. Serves as a subject matter expert for medical nutrition therapy. Provides education to staff/community. Participates in performance improvement projects as assigned by leadership. Serves as department representative on various hospital or system committees. Responsible for the assessment and nutritional management of acute and chronic disease in inpatient or outpatient settings.

Education

• Bachelors Degree in Dietetics (Required)
• If Bachelor's Degree is in a major other than Dietetics, must complete an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.

Certification/Licensure

• Board Certified Specialist in one of the recognized ADA/NATCO/NBNSC specialty certifications: Cert Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Renal Nutrition (CSR); Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP); Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG); Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO), Certified Sports Dietitian (CSSD) and Certified Clinical Transplant Dietitian (CCTD)

Experience

• Performs comprehensive nutrition assessment within department approved time frames and documentation within department time frames.
• Performs nutrition focused physical exam when appropriate.
• Performs malnutrition diagnosis in accordance with ASPEN/AND criteria and documents accordingly in EMR.
• Follow-up per department policy time frames. Patient/family and staff education. Participates in multidisciplinary patient focused meetings including MDRs, ICU rounds, Also Meets expectations by providing evidence of working with multidisciplinary teams in direct patient care.
• Patient/family and staff education. Serves as SME for clinical nutrition department by presenting one lecture  in subject matter to clinical nutrition team, community, nursing staff, medical staff or assisting in one high level project for the year. Mentors staff RDs by performing chart audits or other duties as assigned by leadership.
