Purpose

The Director of Math Initiatives at ServeMinnesota leads ServeMinnesota’s initiatives designed to ensure more students receive high-quality, evidence-based math instruction. As a key champion of these initiatives, the Director of Math Initiatives will collaborate with leading experts to define a bold vision for a classroom math strategy. This position will lead the development, piloting and scaling of an innovative program model designed to transform classroom math practices and accelerate student achievement. This position will also provide expert guidance on the continuing implementation, evaluation, and improvement of key math tutoring programs. Finally, the position will provide subject-matter inputs into fundraising and stakeholder engagement strategies. This position reports to the Chief Impact Officer and works closely with the Vice President of Education Research and other team leaders to ensure alignment between innovation, research, funding strategy, operational feasibility, and external partnerships.

This position is based in downtown Minneapolis and currently working a hybrid schedule. The Director of Math Initiatives is required to work in the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop recommendations for a comprehensive Tier 1 math initiative. Conduct landscape and policy analysis of math instruction landscape, including engaging key stakeholders to identify opportunities for the organization to contribute to improving math outcomes. Identify, synthesize, and translate emerging research into actionable intervention concepts for a tier 1 math program. Develop vision for ServeMinnesota’s Tier 1 math initiative and secure leadership buy-in.

  2. Develop and provide directional oversight for all aspects related to implementation of the math initiative. Lead the development of a Tier 1 math program, including creating training and related materials, developing a coaching model, and establishing procedures to manage program including technology infrastructure. Collaborate with Ampact to create guidance to ensure math initiative and Math Corps services are optimized when co-located.

  3. Oversee field test and piloting for a Tier 1 math initiative. Recruit and onboard school partners for testing new interventions and oversee implementation of the pilot to ensure clarity of purpose, fidelity of design, and responsiveness to local context. Monitor implementation in real time and adjust program based on feedback and data. Coordinate with team to assess effectiveness and impact.

  4. Provide day-to-day leadership and management for the Tier 1 math initiative to ensure alignment with ServeMinnesota’s organizational priorities. Establish meeting and communication cadences for all math initiatives, including meeting regularly with Vice President of Education Research and Development to ensure program remains aligned with ServeMinnesota’s strategic goals. Lead, supervise and support staff and contractors who are working on math initiatives.

  5. Ensure math initiative partnerships are successful and meet priority targets. Successfully establish, nurture and maintain site-level partnerships. Establish monitoring and communication systems/processes with partner sites. Provide targeted support for ‘flagship’ or ‘specially-funded’ site partnerships.

  6. Provide guidance and leadership for all evaluation activities. Coordinate with leaders to inform evaluation and research priorities. Develop and oversee continuous improvement plan, establishing processes to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and implement program improvements. Support internal and external dissemination of evaluation findings related to the math initiative.

Job Qualifications

Minimum

  • Master’s degree in a related field required.
  • A minimum of five years directly related experience required.
  • Energetic, high-level strategic thinker whose ambition and creativity is grounded by extensive experience in community-based, human-centered technology, and/or education program implementation
  • Training and experience in project management/leadership.
  • Strong skills in project coordination, leadership, and management, including a clear track record of constructing, communicating, and successfully adhering to complex program/project implementation timelines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including comfort and skill in reconciling differences of opinion, acknowledging and resolving conflict, and strengthening or building consensus
  • Proven relationship-building skills and the ability to interact successfully with a wide range of stakeholders representing diversity of perspectives, culture and interests
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; confidence in public speaking.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Comfort in using online data management systems
  • Must work occasional evenings and weekends
