Finning is looking for a Service Planner to join our team in Red Deer. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing repair and rebuild projects for heavy equipment and components. Acting as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the repair process, you will develop work scopes, prepare estimates and quotes, coordinate internal resources, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working with customers, managing multiple priorities, and collaborating with technical teams to deliver exceptional service.
Job Description:
What You'll Do
Customer & Project Management
- Act as the primary contact for customers throughout the repair and rebuild process.
- Gather equipment information and establish repair requirements to develop an accurate scope of work.
- Prepare estimates and quotes for repairs, maintenance, and rebuild projects.
- Provide recommendations and solutions to meet customer needs and operational requirements.
- Manage customer service and warranty-related repairs.
- Communicate repair status, timelines, and project updates throughout the service process.
- Follow up with customers after repairs to ensure satisfaction and identify future opportunities.
- Manage changes to project scope, timelines, and budgets.
Planning & Coordination
- Develop detailed repair plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures.
- Research equipment history, warranty coverage, service records, and technical documentation to support repair planning.
- Coordinate with service supervisors, technicians, parts teams, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Participate in planning, scheduling, and project review meetings.
- Monitor repair progress and proactively address issues that may impact timelines or costs.
- Track and communicate project backlog and workload priorities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying lessons learned and process improvements.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Service, Product Support, Parts, Sales, and Administrative teams.
- Communicate customer priorities and expectations internally.
- Support effective movement and tracking of equipment and components throughout the Finning network.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in technical service, repairs, warranty administration, parts, heavy equipment, or a related field.
- Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand equipment repair requirements.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Financial understanding related to estimating, quoting, and project costing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related business systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment, engines, or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of warranty processes and service operations.
- Project management training or experience.
- Blue Seal certification is considered an asset.
- PMP designation is considered an asset.
