Overview
Otter Products is hiring a Packaging Engineer to join our team in Fort Collins, CO. This role can work a hybrid schedule.
The Packaging Engineer works closely with other departments in an effort to obtain, communicate and act upon the necessary information for the design and implementation of new packaging. Success in this position will require assisting in the mechanical design of packaging, testing package systems, pilot plant and production processes, managing assigned projects and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of packaging trends. The ideal Otter will have solid packaging knowledge and an engineering mindset.

- Develop and maintain relationships with packaging suppliers to collaborate on design/development of packaging, ensure packaging consistency on a global scale, achieve cost targets, ensure packaging design viability, and oversee packaging testing.
- Work closely with Engineering, Marketing, Purchasing and Product Development to develop packaging that aligns with the needs of the cross-functional departments while hitting established cost and quality targets.
- Design packaging structures, conduct testing to ensure performance throughout transit and the product lifecycle, and ensure successful manufacturability of packaging designs.
- Lead packaging development throughout the full product lifecycle, including conceptual design, process development, deployment, validation, continuous improvement, production support, supplier development, and well as the packaging, shipping and transportation testing required for consumer packaging.
- Develop and manage packaging procedures, design rules, and guidelines that support business objectives, including cost optimization, product protection, brand presentation, and effective communication of product value.
- Develop advanced packaging designs from concept to final release including CAD documentation.
- Create and maintain component specifications for all primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging and conduct or oversee packaging performance testing.
- Maintain packaging-related information within the product lifecycle management (PLM) system and update bills of material as required.
- Support and maintain a positive safety culture by following all safety policies and procedures and actively contributing to a safe working environment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required. Degree in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of four years of packaging engineering or packaging project experience including CAD experience is required.
- Experience with paper-based packaging required.
- Experience with Solidworks, ArtiosCAD or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience developing retail packaging structures preferred.
- Experience with ISTA, ASTM, or other package testing standards preferred.
