Job Description

General Summary:

Vertex is entering a transformative phase in its data journey—where trusted, governed master data is foundational to enabling enterprise-wide analytics, AI, and operational excellence. We are seeking an execution-focused Associate Director, Customer Master to lead the Customer(HCP/HCO) master data domain within Vertex’s Enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) organization reporting to the Director, Enterprise MDM.

This role will be responsible for one of the most critical and complex data domains at Vertex. The Global Healthcare Entity Master (GHEM) supports a broad range of cross-functional processes and is foundational to commercial operations, analytics, and decision-making. This role will provide end-to-end ownership of the Customer MDM, including the design, build, and ongoing management of the customer master and its published consumption layer for downstream systems and analytics use cases. The role will also drive modernization of the customer master platform through cloud migration, advanced MDM capabilities, and AI/LLM-enabled innovation to improve data quality, automation, and semantic enrichment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Domain Leadership
    • Lead the technical ownership of the Customer Master domain within Vertex’s enterprise MDM strategy
    • Own the Customer MDM data product, including the customer master and its published consumption layer for downstream operational and analytics use cases
    • Lead the modernization and cloud migration of the Customer Master platform
    • Own and evolve the customer-domain MDM platform roadmap and architecture
    • Own the customer domain ontology and knowledge graph, including design, development, and ongoing curation
    • Stay ahead of industry trends in AI, data governance, and MDM to evolve customer master capabilities
  • Customer MDM Product Management
    • Define and govern customer-domain data models, match/merge configuration, survivorship rules and other core MDM configurations
    • Own the published consumption layer for the customer master to ensure high-quality, trusted, and scalable data delivery to downstream systems and analytics use cases
    • Partner with platform and integration teams to enable reliable customer data exchange and downstream consumption across enterprise systems including Veeva, Oracle ERP, Snowflake, and Salesforce
    • Drive ongoing enhancement of the Customer MDM product through improved matching logic, AI/LLM-enabled mastering capabilities, semantic matching, metadata generation, anomaly detection, and data enrichment
  • Operations and delivery
    • Lead day-to-day technical operations of the customer master to ensure reliable single source of truth is delivered to downstream enterprise systems
    • Oversee daily data operations for HCP/HCO data, including data ingestion, mastering, and quality management
    • Ensure duplicates are resolved, affiliations are maintained accurately, healthcare organization hierarchies are governed appropriately, and changes propagate reliably across downstream systems
    • Drive improvements in master data quality through modern MDM capabilities and data-driven operational practices
    • Define and track KPIs for master data quality and platform performance
    • Drive continuous improvement in MDM processes using agile methodologies and data-driven insights
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration
    • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and DTE (Data, Technology and Engineering) stakeholders to understand priorities, align delivery, and support adoption of customer master capabilities
    • Partner with Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Validation teams to ensure platform capabilities are tested, validated, and aligned with enterprise standards
    • Manage relationships with SI vendors and MDM software partners to support solution implementation, integration, and ongoing platform enhancement
    • Drive stakeholder engagement, change management, and cross-functional alignment to enable successful implementation and adoption of customer master capabilities

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep expertise in Master Data Management (MDM), data lifecycle management, and Customer MDM (HCP/HCO) within the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry
  • Strong experience with MDM platforms, including data modeling, match/merge configuration, survivorship rules, hierarchy management, and integration patterns with enterprise systems
  • Hands-on experience with modern MDM platforms such as Reltio or Informatica IDMC MDM
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare customer reference data and industry data sources supporting HCP/HCO mastering, including OneKey, MedPro, SP/SD data, as well as affiliations, hierarchies, and golden record creation
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and stewardship operating models
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting MDM transformation initiatives, including platform modernization, cloud migration, data migration, user acceptance testing, and enterprise adoption
  • Strong knowledge of cloud and enterprise data architecture and engineering, including APIs, security, and modern integration patterns across Snowflake, Veeva, Salesforce, and Oracle ERP
  • Familiarity with AI/ML and large language model technologies and their application in MDM use cases such as intelligent matching, semantic enrichment, anomaly detection, and automation
  • Strong awareness of data privacy, security, validation, and compliance requirements in regulated environments
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and vendor management skills, with the ability to influence across business, DTE, validation, and external partner teams
  • Proficiency in Agile delivery, project leadership, and continuous improvement practices

Education and Experience:
