Based in Greater Milton, this position supports and travels to the following sites: Braintree, Dorchester, Quincy, Hyde Park, Middleboro, Milton and Randolph.

The Phlebotomy Supervisor, Patient Service Centers oversees and is responsible for staffing and the daily operations of the Patient Service
Centers (PSCs) and in-office phlebotomy sites that are managed by Beth Israel Lahey Phlebotomy Services and that are assigned to the Phlebotomy Supervisor.

In this role, you will oversee and manage a team of PSC Phlebotomists and PSC Float Phlebotomists who perform specimen collections, provide exceptional customer service, and are the face and voice of the BILH Laboratories to patients in the Patient Service Centers and in office phlebotomy sites. Training, competency, collection station set up, supply maintenance and staffing are assignments for the
Phlebotomy Supervisor. The Phlebotomy Supervisor maintains excellent communication and working relationships with internal and external clients. They provide consistent quality service to our customers and ensure that employee morale is maintained at the highest level.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensure adequate staffing and efficient, effective workflow for outpatient, off-site collection stations, and Inpatient Phlebotomy to meet clinical and provider demands Drive quality improvement initiatives, continuously looking for ways to improve department performance, service, and employee morale Training and ensure competency for new employees, nursing and medical students in the area of expertise Technical resource for difficult Phlebotomy blood draws for inpatient, outpatient and off site collection stations Shares on - call responsibilities Schedule, provide input for payroll and employee performance evaluations Communicate lab concerns to Clinical Manager and make suggestions for resolution Assume responsibility for helping the department achieve budget goals in accordance with the Clinical Manager. Maintain compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies including quality improvement training, safety compliance and competency in area of expertise Participation in major projects including space planning and department implementation of Laboratory Information System(s) in the area of expertise

More Specifically:

  • Open new Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, in consultation with the Phlebotomy Manager and Lab Account Managers;
  • Participate in the interview, selection, and hiring of new Patient Service Center Phlebotomists and Float Phlebotomists.
  • Oversee and train phlebotomists who staff the assigned Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, in order to ensure that they understand and provide services in accordance with approved policies and procedures regarding all of their job junctions to:

                                 ○ Greet patients and collect patient demographic and insurance information.

○  Validate and/or update the patient’s demographic and insurance information i n a BILH computer system, for the majority of patients whose lab tests have already been ordered in a BILH computer system, and, for other patients, collect and accurately enter the patient’s demographic information, insurance information and lab test orders into a BILH computer system,

○ Collect and process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, and if required freezing, and prepare specimens for transport to a BILH laboratory, and ○               Follow daily site opening and closing procedures.

  • Conduct site visits to all assigned Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites to ensure adequate training, supervision and oversight of the services provided by Phlebotomists and Float Phlebotomists, and document the findings from site visits;
  • Ensure that Phlebotomists and Float Phlebotomist in the assigned sites consistently provide services that meet the needs of patients and providers, and that result in a high degree of patient and provider satisfaction with the services provided.
  • Monitor the on-going performance of employees and provides corrective actions, re-training and counseling as required;
  • Prepare schedules for Phlebotomists in assigned PSCs, and, as needs arise, assign Float Phlebotomists to cover for phlebotomists’ scheduled Paid Time Off, unscheduled absences, and leaves of absence, and to cover for vacant phlebotomist positions;
  • Ensure adequate phlebotomy staffing in all assigned Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, except when infeasible due to staff shortages;
  • Track and validate or enter time and attendance information for assigned PSC Phlebotomists and Float Phlebotomists;
  • Perform annual performance appraisals for phlebotomists and float phlebotomists in assigned Patient Service Centers and inoffice phlebotomy sites;
  • Assist in the implementation of approved performance improvement initiatives;
  • Manage expenses for operating the assigned Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites so that they are consistent within approved budgets and metrics;
  • Oversee the inventory process and inventory levels for the assigned sites;
  • Ensure that all applicable federal, state and local licensure requirements are met;
  • When needs arise and requested by the Phlebotomy Manager, travel to and temporarily oversee new or existing Patient Service Centers outside the Phlebotomy Supervisor’s assigned territory;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Phlebotomy Manager

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency
  • Three years of work experience as a phlebotomist •  Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Experience using laboratory and/or hospital information systems
  • Two or more years of experience working in a lab PSC or in-office phlebotomy site preferred
  • One or more years of as a Phlebotomy Supervisor or Lead Phlebotomist preferred
  • Two years of experience as a Phlebotomy supervisor or Lead Phlebotomist preferred

 

 

Pay Range:

$79,000.00 USD - $106,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
