Job Description:

Enterprise Architect – Asia IT is responsible for defining, governing, and advancing the IT architecture strategy, technology vision and execution across Sun Life Asia, ensuring alignment with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and global technology direction.

This role serves as the primary architecture SME for the region, driving AI-led transformation, digital platform modernization, and cloud-first adoption. The position enables scalable, secure, and future-ready capabilities by embedding AI, data, and automation into core business processes, while ensuring consistency, reusability, and value realization across markets.

The role plays a critical leadership function in advancing Sun Life’s AI strategy (including Lane-based transformation, BMAD methodology, and enterprise AI platforms such as Galileo/AI Hub) and fostering an innovation-driven engineering culture across Asia IT

Responsibilities and Major Accountabilites

1. Enterprise Architecture Strategy & Technology Roadmap

• Define and continuously evolve the Asia enterprise architecture blueprint across application, data, integration, security, and infrastructure domains.
• Align architecture strategy with business transformation priorities, including digital, customer experience, and operational excellence objectives.
• Establish and enforce architecture principles, standards, and reference models, including API-first, microservices, event-driven, and platform-based architectures.
• Develop multi-year technology roadmaps integrating cloud, AI, and modernization initiatives aligned with global strategies.

2. AI Strategy & Intelligent Automation Leadership

• Drive the adoption and scaling of AI capabilities across Asia, including underwriting automation, claims intelligence, fraud detection, and customer engagement.
• Define and institutionalize AI architecture frameworks, including data pipelines, model lifecycle (MLOps), and governance.
• Lead implementation of AI transformation models (e.g., Lane 1/2/3, BMAD) to accelerate value realization across markets.
• Ensure responsible AI practices, including ethics, explainability, bias mitigation, and regulatory compliance.

3. Architecture Governance & Design Authority

• Act as the regional design authority for large-scale transformation programs and platform implementations.
• Lead architecture governance across forums such as ATG, RTAB, ETAB, ensuring alignment to enterprise standards.
• Review and approve solution architectures for initiatives including core system modernization, digital onboarding, and smart claims platforms.
• Ensure effective integration across platforms such as Neutrinos, Salesforce, and enterprise AI platforms.

4. Digital Platform & Cloud Transformation (15%)

• Drive the adoption of cloud-native architectures and platform engineering practices across Asia IT.
• Define reference architectures for core platforms, digital ecosystems, API marketplaces, and integration layers.
• Lead modernization of legacy systems through decomposition, re-platforming, and composable architecture approaches.
• Enable scalable data platforms and real-time analytics capabilities for business insights and AI enablement.

5. Stakeholder Leadership & Cross-Market Alignment

Partner with regional executives, CIOs, and business leaders to guide technology investment decisions and transformation priorities.

• Lead cross-market alignment to enable reusable solutions and shared platforms across Asia markets.
• Act as the primary interface between Asia IT, global architecture teams, and external technology partners/vendors.
• Influence executive stakeholders on innovation, AI adoption, and future technology direction.

6. Risk, Security & Technology Governance

• Ensure all architectures comply with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and risk policies.
• Oversee governance related to permit-to-operate (PTO), vulnerability remediation, and system resilience.
• Establish controls for data privacy, cybersecurity, and secure AI deployment.

7. Capability Building & Innovation Culture

• Build and mentor a strong enterprise architecture and engineering community across Asia IT.
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including DevSecOps, SRE, and platform engineering.
• Promote innovation and experimentation through AI pilots, labs, and accelerator programs.
• Enhance internal capabilities to reduce vendor dependency and improve delivery agility

Education and Experience

  Deep expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and modern architecture patterns

  Advanced knowledge of AI/ML technologies, GenAI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation frameworks

  Strong experience in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and cloud-native architectures

  Expertise in data architecture, analytics platforms, and AI data pipelines

  Knowledge of insurance domain architecture (New Business, Claims, Underwriting, Policy Admin)

  Proven experience in large-scale digital transformation and platform modernization

  Strong understanding of cybersecurity architecture and regulatory compliance in financial services
