Description
- Cleans and maintains animal confinement area, cleans and disinfects cages; feeds and waters confined animals; makes routine inspections of animals and their cages to monitor health, safety, and cleanliness of cages.
- Washes food and water bowls, shelter laundry, any shelter utensils and keeps facility sanitary.
- Bathes/grooms animals as necessary
- Encourages adoptions of sheltered animals; assists interested parties in claiming or adopting confined animals, processing required paperwork, collecting fees and providing receipts, as necessary.
- Assists with the maintenance of a disease prevention program, including assisting with administering medication and vaccines under supervision and implementation of enhanced sanitation and disinfecting procedures.
- Assists in euthanasia procedures under supervision of CET qualified staff.
- Monitors population for medical or behavioral concerns and communicates these to the Shelter Manager.
- Ensures prompt and accurate data entry of required data in shelter automated information systems.
- Conduct general housekeeping tasks for common areas and office spaces. Minor upkeep and routine cleaning of outdoor exercise areas and grounds on the property.
- Aids in the training of volunteers.
- Maintains a professional and healthy environment for all animals, staff, and volunteers.
- Educates guests on the importance of routine pet care, including preventative veterinary care, training, and exercise.
- Participates in staff meetings and shares ideas and suggestions designed to improve working conditions of the shelter.
- Provides excellent customer service to all visitors at all times.
- Performs other duties as required.
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): Must be able to obtain Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET) certification within six (6) months from date of employment and Certified Rabies Vaccinator (CRV). Weekend, holiday, and/or on-call work may be required.
