 Winston Café is seeking a reliable and motivated Evening Cook to join our kitchen team. This role is essential in delivering high-quality food in a fast-paced environment while maintaining cleanliness, efficiency, and consistency across all menu items.

Position Overview

Cooks at Winston Café may be assigned to various stations, including meats, vegetables, bakery, and salads. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and committed to maintaining high food quality and safety standards.

Requirements

Core Competencies

• Ability to speak and understand conversational English 
• Ability to read and interpret menus in English, including basic measurements and equivalents 
• Strong multitasking skills with the ability to work efficiently, accurately, and quickly 
• Ability to maintain proper stock levels of menu items within assigned station 

Essential Job Functions

• Read and follow English menus to accurately prepare menu items for daily service 
• Ensure all food is prepped and ready no later than 10 minutes prior to opening 
• Prepare food in accordance with projected quantities and recipes 
• Visually inspect food quality; discard items that do not meet standards 
• Track and report any discarded food items to management 
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, including walk-ins and reach-ins 
• Use restaurant-issued cleaning supplies to uphold sanitation standards 
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of all menu items and recipes 

Additional Responsibilities

• Be flexible and assist in all back-of-house areas (salads, meats, vegetables, etc.) as needed 
• Assist with both preparation and closing duties across stations 
• During closing, properly discard, restock, and maintain all food items 
• Communicate with incoming shift cooks regarding daily progress, menu items, and completed prep/set-ups 
• Prepare set-ups, maintain organized walk-ins, and complete cleaning and operational checklists 
• Maintain attendance in accordance with the employee handbook 
• Perform other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time 
• Frequent bending, stooping, turning, walking, and lifting 
• Ability to work on uneven surfaces as needed 
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds 
• Team lift required for items over 25 pounds or for awkward loads
