Regional Veterinary Medical Director –  Catlett, VA

 

A leading veterinary organization is seeking an experienced Area Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across three hospitals in Northern Virginia. This full-time role combines hands-on veterinary medicine with multi-site leadership, focusing on medical quality, veterinarian development, hospital performance, and team culture. The position offers an opportunity to mentor veterinary teams, support operational excellence, and help drive long-term growth across multiple practices.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic medical leadership across three veterinary hospitals.
  • Maintain and advance high standards of veterinary medicine and patient care.
  • Mentor, coach, and support veterinarians in their clinical and professional development.
  • Provide hands-on clinical guidance in general practice and surgery.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and identify training and continuing education needs.
  • Support veterinarian recruitment, onboarding, and retention.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to improve doctor productivity and hospital performance.
  • Analyze KPIs and develop data-driven strategies for operational improvement.
  • Optimize scheduling, workflow, patient flow, and overall hospital efficiency.
  • Promote consistent medical and operational standards across locations.
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive hospital culture.
  • Build strong relationships with veterinarians, hospital leaders, support teams, clients, and the local community.
  • Support conflict resolution and effective communication across teams.
  • Travel between designated hospitals as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical veterinary experience.
  • Active veterinary license in good standing or ability to obtain Virginia licensure.
  • Leadership or multi-site oversight experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and veterinary expertise.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Operational and financial understanding.
  • Ability to manage change and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently between assigned hospitals.
