Description
The Coating Manager leads a team of supervisors and production employees responsible for the manufacturing of quality products in a cost-effective and safe manner at Mactac's manufacturing facility in Scranton, PA. This individual will train, motivate, coach and instill good management skills in supervisor and employees, providing both individual and team leadership in achieving plant and department objectives and maintaining an effective continuous production operations consistent with plant policies, procedures and goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Establishing a strong presence on the floor to set and communicate expectations, standards, and evaluate results so all employees understand expectations.
- Carrying out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including: interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensuring that all production equipment scheduled to run and support areas are staffed with qualified employees.
- Maintaining equipment staffing and vacation schedules, and ensuring all employees adhere to work, attendance and safety rules.
- Reviewing production schedules to ensure the schedules can be achieved and are based on the priorities of maximizing production effectiveness and providing good customer service.
- Focusing on employee development by conducting training sessions (safety, SOPs, housekeeping) and providing coaching on the machine problem troubleshooting process to develop employees to be self-sufficient in troubleshooting and engaged in the decision-making processes.
- Reporting daily on employee, machinery, processes, safety and facility issues and concerns.
- Being accountable for plant objective projects to ensure overall effectiveness and successful implementation.
- Monitoring and analyzing machine waste and run efficiencies such as run-time, run speeds and quality trends, and incorporating input from production support personnel, supervisors and all support functions to initiate corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Reporting all shift information for department to the Plant Manager.
- Fostering an environment of continuous improvement by managing department employees using Six Sigma/Lean tools.
- Communicating company messages to all employees, and collecting and responding to questions and concerns.
- Supporting cross-functional and cross-plant operational learning expansion, and promoting standardization of best practices and manufacturing base-lining.
- Establishing and sustaining management processes that supports both the sustainment and improvement of the operation.
- Providing leadership that ensures all functions (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, QA, Safety, Warehouse, and Accounting) are working in an aligned fashion towards common goals/objectives.
- Developing a comprehensive budget for the department and managing the achievement of the annual plan.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years prior manufacturing supervisory experience is required. Candidates with less than 5 years of supervisory experience who possess at least 7 years experience in coating and/or finishing will be considered.
- Prior leadership experience is required.
- Knowledge of and experience in web handling and coating equipment and processes is required.
- Prior experience in pressure-sensitive adhesives, labeling, or paper industries highly preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
- Familiarity with MRP and/or ERP systems is preferred.
- Strong math abilities with the ability to perform various math functions with emphasis on measurable impact of mathematical calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
