The Manager, Transplant Services plays a key role in advancing Ontario’s transplant system and improving patient outcomes across the province. Serving as a subject matter expert, this position partners with internal teams, provincial working groups, and key stakeholders to provide leadership and guidance on transplant policies, practices, and programs across liver and small bowel, heart and lung, kidney, and pancreas transplantation.


The Manager leads organ-specific program portfolios and works closely with leadership to drive policy development, program enhancements, and operational improvements that strengthen system performance, support equitable access to transplant services, and ensure successful implementation of system-wide initiatives.


Here is what you will be doing:


  • Planning & Alignment: Critically reflects on TGLN policies, as well as process/operations, in comparison with other organizations and current research, to identify potential future strategies (i.e., new programs) and working relationships with other organizations
  • Stakeholder Management: Initiates and maintains strong working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to determine required action
  • Management & Implementation:  Directs, leads, and manages project planning to ensure successful project outcome & monitors project progress and responds to changes in project plans.
  • Manages work performed by project analysts (e.g., policy reviews, literature searches, briefing notes, stakeholder communications) to create a recommendations report to achieve quality and work process improvements related to policy changes and standardization of transplant practice across the province.
  • Facilitates the development of best practices and modifies/creates tools for policy implementation and management.
  • Evaluates policy & processes and makes recommendations to improve future decisions or to research new methodology or ways for TGLN to expand operations or practices.
  • Participates in operation and strategic planning initiatives, providing decision support; and works with Director, Transplant Services to determine approved actions (scope). Then, manages internal resources to implement actions.
  • SME for organ specific groups (liver and small bowel, heart and lungs, kidneys, and pancreas) and other topic areas as assigned.
  • Manages the TGLN relationship with several working groups and related committees’ members concurrently, providing information and discussing best practices and trends in Transplant programs. Balances multiple stakeholders at one time.
  • Facilitates process improvements in collaboration with other managers and directors across the organization to improve communications and workflow.
  • Leads teams to develop projects/enhancements and steers working group and related committees to accept or amend project scope/actions.
  • Manages working group meetings and communicates project expectations and vision (for existing ongoing work), including urgent status and strategy to various stakeholders.
  • Builds, develops, and grows business relationships vital to the success of the project or changes made to TGLN because of working group and related committees suggested actions.
  • Collaborates with Directors and Senior Management and selected stakeholders, to define projects and / or enhancements required for TGLN to act upon, and upon approval, facilitate the implementation through oversight of each project team or operations,
  • Manages project analysts in the execution of program enhancements or projects (based upon time/resources required) identified by working groups.
  • Leads strategic and project planning sessions with respective project teams for multiple project areas within organ specific transplant and other related portfolios as required.
  • Oversees process, project components and formation of cross functional teams; Manages progress and delivers progress reports.
  •  Manages and develops workable solutions to complex problems with input from team; utilizes creativity and facilitates group brainstorming to develop potential new solutions / alternative plans or required operational steps.
  • Manages expectations and any roadblocks by critically thinking through shifting priorities and changing scope.
  • Working with other leadership roles (Transplant and PRC), develops and manages the implementation of a knowledge strategy to promote best practices and oversees project analysts in the development of supporting tools.
  • Defines and evaluates program and project success within portfolio.
  • Manages dissemination of results to involved parties throughout multiple project life cycles; applies program management expertise to implement see policy/program changes at TGLN.
  • With direction, manages the project analysts in the development of proposals, required documents and presentations and edits final drafts.
  • Manages changes in project scope or operational barriers, identifies potential crises, and develops contingency plans.
  • Manages and oversees the development of procedures to ensure outcomes satisfactory to the organ specific working groups and other related committees.
  • Conducts performance reviews annually to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Fosters a collaborative work environment where the transplant team contributes to the success of the overall organization.
  • Models a leadership style that is flexible, responsible, and appropriate to the circumstances ensuring employees, colleagues and stakeholders are informed, involved, and heard in an environment of mutual respect.
  • Provides leadership to team; this includes sharing knowledge and best practices; providing direct reports with coaching and guidance on a broad spectrum of matters.
  • Responsible for the ongoing development of direct reports.
  • Works in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety/ Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Here is what you will need to be successful:


Education and Experience:


  • University degree or college diploma in a related field, with a master’s preferred.
  •  Minimum six (6) years of direct work experience in a health care related environment with an understanding of program management and working with multi-disciplinary teams or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience leading, developing, and supporting teams through projects, programs, and/or direct people leadership is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with project management; able to apply project management methodology to program enhancement/implementation and develop project plans/resource allocation.
  • Recognized experience facilitating planning meetings, providing subject matter expertise, and working in a collaborative nature to determine potential objectives and plans and consider various solutions balancing multiple stakeholders needs/wants.

 

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Strong ability to forecast impact (short-, mid- and long-term effects) of decisions/solutions/new program.
  • Familiarity with other organ procurement organization’s planning, operations, research, and analysis are considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience working with multiple stakeholders at one time and effective communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, analyze, create, and apply concepts and approaches.
  • Experience conducting research into program-related issues and products.
  • Strong capability to recommend strategic direction and development of programs.
  • General computer usage skills: word processing and electronic forms usage are required in addition to utilizing TGLN software applications. 
  • Strong ability to use MS office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
