FINANCE INTERN
THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO FILL ONE (1) PART-TIME VACANCY IN THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT AND ESTABLISH AN ELIBILITY LIST THAT MAY BE USED TO FILL FUTURE VACANCIES.
The examination process consists of a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the employment application and supplemental questionnaire. THE POSITIONThe City of Baldwin Park is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Finance Department as a part-time Intern. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in municipal finance, accounting, and administrative operations while supporting the department's day-to-day functions.
Under direct supervision, the Finance Intern will perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties, including data entry; verification of statistical and financial information; preparation of reports, correspondence, accounting forms, and other departmental materials; maintenance and organization of records; filing and sorting documents; sorting and distributing mail; and providing general administrative support for departmental operations. Additional responsibilities include answering telephone calls, relaying messages, greeting and assisting visitors, responding to public inquiries, and performing other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOURS
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, twist, stoop, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
This is a non-benefited, at-will, part-time position. Work schedules will be assigned at the discretion of the Finance Department based on operational needs. Candidates must be available to work assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Employees may work up to 20 hours per week, not to exceed 960 total hours per fiscal year.
Possess strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills. Apply proficient computer skills and knowledge to support a wide range of statistical and accounting related functions. Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (advance knowledge highly desirable). Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instruction; Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, effectively prioritize, have strong organizational skills and be flexible and easily adapt to frequent changing priorities. Utilize excellent customer service skills to perform the usual receptionist duties such as answer phones, greet and assist customers, and relay messages. Respond to questions from internal and external customers in a timely, courteous, professional and confidential manner.
- Must be currently enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited college and/or university with a finance, accounting, business administration major or closely related field. Applicants MUST submit proof of current enrollment or a copy of their degree.
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible general or accounting clerical experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of submitting employment application.
- Experience working in the public sector is highly desirable.
