$26.25 - $35.44The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Prepares instruments, equipment and supplies adhering to principles of sterile techniques, utilizing technical knowledge. Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases. Assists the clinical staff by performing assistive/advocacy services in caring for the patient. Decontaminates, processes, assembles, stores and distributes medical devices and supplies used in patient care while adhering to principles of asepsis and infection control. Oversees the training of Sterile Processing employees.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs all aspects of the technical job responsibilities, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, cart set up, and distribution.
- Monitors the day-to-day activities of the central service technician team as it relates to workflow and performance. Provides feedback concerning performance of employees and departmental operations.
- Documents required information and maintains records for instruments and equipment.
- Undertakes continuous education and trains in all areas of sterile processing, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations.
- Maintains proper care of instruments and equipment, ensuring utilization is in accordance with manufacturers guidelines. Initiates and/or participates in quality assurance and continuous quality monitoring and utilizes results to initiate/recommend changes as indicated.
- Identifies, monitors, orders and distributes all supplies and stock items, including equipment requests. Serves as liaison to hospital purchasing department as well as outside vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma equivalent and 3 years direct experience in sterile processing, inventory control or in a perioperative setting with surgical instruments and supplies with in a hospital/clinical environment required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment and its relationship to surgical procedures required
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite programs. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) required
- Strong ability to communicate, orally and in writing required
- Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- If hired on or after January 1, 2014, candidate must pass a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and hold and maintain one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization
- CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician within 1-1/2 years required or
- CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech within 1-1/2 years required or
- or a substantially equivalent credential within 1-1/2 years required
