We are seeking a Family Time Coordinator/ Family Engagement Worker (Social Service Assistant) join our dedicated Child Welfare (CW) team in Clackamas.

Summary of Duties

 

As a Family Time Coordinator/ Family Engagement Worker, you will:

 

  • Gather and Document Information: Collect and record information from the caseworker, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools, and other relevant resources to plan family time visits. 
  • Attend Court Hearing: Meet with parents and relative supports following the preliminary hearing to create initial family time plans that support attachment and bonding between children and their families and facilitate first family time after the court hearing.
  • Review Family Time Agreements: Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines, suggesting community resources as needed. 
  • Supervise Family Time: Supervise family time in an office or community setting, documenting relevant information. This ensures the safety and well-being of the children during these interactions. 
  • Transport Children: Assist with transporting children and parents/guardians to family time visits and other necessary appointments. 
  • Collaborate with Caseworkers: Work closely with caseworkers to assess the details of family time supervision. Recommend services needed for case planning and relay important information about the children and their families or caregivers

Minimum Qualifications


A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

 

  • One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting; OR

  • An associate degree in any field; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

We are looking for candidates with:

 

  • Demonstrated experience working both collaboratively and independently (self-directed), building effective relationships with co-staff and client families to ensure coordinated, seamless care and support for children and families.   
  • Experience interacting professionally and effectively with individuals of diverse identities, cultures, ethnicities, and abilities while promoting equitable and inclusive services.  
  • Experience building rapport with clients and effectively responding to emotionally escalated or crisis situations using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches
  • Experience maintaining accurate, timely, and objective case documentation, including observations and case notes, using electronic case management systems.  
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, exercise sound clinical judgement, and develop effective, trauma-informed solutions when working with children and families with complex trauma histories.  
  • Experience with adjusting and flexing seamlessly to changing environments and shifting priorities.

Working Conditions  

 

  • Your work schedule:  The typical work schedule is Tuesday 9:30-6:30, Wed-Fri 10-7; Sat 9:00-6:00pm, base office is in Clackamas, however work is conducted in court offices, family homes, community locations, department of correction locations and other Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) offices.

  • Work hours may be adjusted to meet business needs. Employees may be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, under certain circumstances.

  • Occasional mandatory overtime may be required.

  •  Physical Requirements: Frequent physical activity is required, including lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting children with car seats, and responding quickly to ensure children's safety, which may include running, bending, lifting, or other physical interventions.

  • This position involves working with individuals impacted by trauma who may exhibit strong emotional reactions, including potential hostility. Employees may encounter stressful situations requiring prompt, well-reasoned decisions and must use a trauma-informed approach when addressing sensitive issues related to trauma, abuse, and crises to help ensure a safe and supportive environment. 

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to use state vehicles. Reasonable accommodation per the ADA or creative solutions in certain cases may be used to meet this need.

 

 

Background Checks and Requirements

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
  • Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint-based criminal records check. 
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
