Job Type: 35 hours Per week, Permanent
The Role To contribute to achieving excellence in all aspects of support for students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD) through innovative and excellent practice. You will liaise with teaching staff to create an environment which enables students with SPLD reach their full potential. You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills to get the most out of your students and to engage the cross-college curriculum teams to provide an inclusive environment to students with SPLD throughout their learning journey. You should be experienced in supporting students with SPLD and will be required to undertake assessments of needs for a range of learning difficulties and /or disabilities. You will also be required to undertake the Access Arrangement Assessments as part of your role and hence will require relevant qualification and experience. Safeguarding, health and wellbeing are the responsibilities of every member of staff in the College. You will be expected to highlight any concerns you may have about the students to the relevant teams and keep yourself up to date with any training on Safeguarding and Prevent. Responsible to: SPLD and Language Support Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
- Complete initial screening process for students with Specific Learning Differences, (SPLD), and undertake in depth assessments as required
- Undertake 1:1 teaching and support on an individual or small group basis
- Deliver indirect support to college tutors, i.e. information, advice and informal staff development in order to assist staff to use differentiated and inclusive approaches
- Liaise with the ALS managers, progress leaders and curriculum staff to identify areas of concern regarding students’ support and academic needs
- Undertake assessments and associated administration required for students for access arrangements.
- Contribute to promoting the service across the College.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments in SPLD and Access arrangements to ensure compliance of latest regulations.
- To support cross college activities (Open Evenings, departmental meetings, parents' evenings ,whole College training events) in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods
- Liaison with internal and external stakeholders to secure and maintain successful relationships, including, for example, professional bodies, universities, schools and employers • Contribute and develop a positive and supportive culture for all staff and learners, working towards the highest standards and driving aspiration for all staff and learners
- Support the College Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Inclusive Learning and Safeguarding policies, processes, arrangements and objectives
- Participate fully in staff development, including in-service training and development opportunities which are made available
- Take a proactive approach and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliances (e.g. GDPR, DPA, Safeguarding), thereby enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times
- Ensure that all support records are maintained and provided to the ALS admin team for claims and quality assurance purposes.
- Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria
1. Educated to a degree level
√ 2. Recognised advanced specialist qualification (AMBDA)
3. Recognised qualification to assess students for Access Arrangements or willingness to achieve the qualification in a specified time
4. Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College
5. Proven relevant experience in assessing and supporting students with Learning Difficulties and/or disabilities
6. Knowledge and understanding of learning support provision
7. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete
8. Excellent communication and negotiating skills
9. Good organisational and record keeping skills
10. Work effectively as part of a team
11. Membership of a relevant professional body
12. knowledge of Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Inclusion and Health and Safety
