About the Role
The Erosion Control Inspector performs technical work related to inspecting, monitoring, reporting, enforcing, and providing general guidance on matters related to the Town of Mooresville Erosion Control Program. This position conducts field inspections, investigates potential violations, works directly with developers, contractors, property owners, and residents, and takes appropriate enforcement action when necessary.

The position also assists with compliance related to the Phase II Stormwater Ordinance, including Stormwater Control Measure (SCM) inspections and public storm pipe installation. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Engineering Technician III and requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret plans, specifications, ordinances, and regulatory requirements.

  • Performs routine inspections on residential, commercial, and Town projects to monitor compliance and maintain inspection reports.
  • Issues notices of violations, including stop work orders, and follows up to ensure issues have been addressed.
  • Investigates complaints about potential erosion control violations or in response to specific incidents in a timely manner and initiates enforcement activities as necessary.
  • Conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with the Town of Mooresville erosion control ordinance, including checking perimeters, silt fence, construction entrances, sediment basins, grading, and other mitigation efforts.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control laws, ordinances, principles, methods, and control and remediation strategies.
  • Reads, prepares, and interprets plans and specifications.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings with engineers, developers, and contractors.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed records and statistics related to erosion control enforcement activities and prepares written reports as needed.
  • Conducts follow-up and final inspections and issues certificates of completion and compliance.
  • Conducts field inspections for the installation of public storm drainage.
  • Conducts Stormwater Control Measure (SCM) inspections for project close-out.
  • Performs other tasks as required.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in construction, building management, and/or maintenance.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain NCSU Stormwater Control Measure Inspection and Maintenance Certification within six (6) months of hire.
