What We Want

The Parking Services Trainer - Nights, under the supervision of the Training Specialist, will be responsible for the day-to-day training of new and current Parking Services Officers. This will entail all aspects of Parking Services Officer duties and responsibilities in a concise, complete, and consistent manner. This position will have a dual-reporting role to both Training Specialist and assigned Supervisors. When not training, this position will perform any assigned duties that are relegated by Supervisors or Management.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be a Parking Services Officer IV in good standing with the department. 

  • Must have shown the willingness and ability to train.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid vehicle driver license and good driving record.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be computer literate and have excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to handle busy phone, 2-way radio and office traffic, and to perform time-critical tasks reliably.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Customer relations skills.

  • Ability to work Independently.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts.

  • Ability to work with reduced levels of managerial oversight and perform supervisory tasks as necessary.

  • Ability to operate and comprehend technical aspects of electronic data terminals and ticket writers, telephone systems, video monitors, computer systems and parking access and revenue control devices.

  • Must be able to use all the following mobility devices with training; mobility devices used include walking, bicycle, scooter, T3, Segway, GO-4, and/or car/truck.

Responsibilities:

  • Training- Responsible for training all officers assigned by the Training Specialist in a clear and consistent manner. Complete daily training reports for review with each trainee and provide training recommendations to the Training Specialist. All training should be conducted in accordance with department policies and procedures. Responsible for a written evaluation and providing feedback to the trainee after each training shift. Makes recommendations to Training Specialist and Management regarding the trainees’ ability to move forward in the training process or if re-training is necessary. Performs re-training as directed. Assists trainees and customers with any questions they may have about campus procedures and operations regarding parking. Makes recommendations to Training Specialist and Management for actions that can improve the training program, training materials and training efficiency. Assists in producing and revising training manuals and materials. 

  • Enforcement/Traffic Control- Will be assigned to one of these areas: Enforcement, Dispatch or Special Controlled Access Network Station. Enforces parking regulations by giving warnings and issuing parking citations including checking for overtime or illegal/restricted parking. Applies and removes immobility devices. Moves and sets up barrels, barricades and other traffic control equipment. Performs traffic control and direction duties. Keeps records and makes detailed reports. Provides information to employees, students, and visitors regarding campus parking regulations and directions. Due to less managerial oversight during non-business hours, may be required to make decisions and apply discretion on enforcement and managerial issues more frequently than similar positions during business hours.  Due to the differing nature of customer interactions at night, may be required to use more customer relation skills to de-escalate contacts with customers. May be required to handle customer complaints and problems directly on a more frequent basis than officers assigned to other shifts due to these reduced resources.  Provides information to employees, students, and visitors regarding campus parking regulations and directions, may be required to provide more detailed information and directions due to limitations on customer resources during non-standard business hours.

  • Shift Leader/Dispatch/SCAN- Performs duties as shift leader of assigned area of operation, including scheduling assigned personnel, conducting pre-shift briefings, monitoring assigned areas for potential problems, and taking action for resolution. Performs duties in dispatch office handling routine and emergency calls, disseminates information to the appropriate parties, provides license plate and parking permit information, coordinates activities with other agencies and/or emergency services and on occasion, directs the actions of the other parking service officers. Performs duties in Special Controlled Access Network station. Assists with the management of department activities during special events on campus. Assists with uniform and equipment inventory. Maintains parking services offices, work areas, and vehicles in a neat and orderly manner. Identifies maintenance requirements of facilities and recommends changes to parking surface painting and signage.

  • Training/Security- Performs advanced in-field duties in assigned area of traffic control, parking enforcement, dispatch and Special Controlled Access Network. Provides in-field training to junior Parking Services Officers and evaluates assigned personnel. Required to participate in field training program to upgrade skills and will be expected to perform supervisory duties as part of training status. Provides low-level security while patrolling. When not assigned a trainee, will be responsible for performing advanced supervisory and other in-field duties in assigned area of traffic control, parking enforcement, dispatch, or Special Controlled Access Network activities, and offering assistance to university employees, students, and visitors.
