Description

Job Title: Interim FP&A Lead

Location: Cape Town CBD (on site) OR London (remote)

Standard Hours: UK-Aligned

Type: Interim / contract. Initial term of 6 months. Possible extension of up to 3 months to overlap with permanent hire.

Why this role exists

OneDome is a UK property and mortgage group that has grown quickly through a series of acquisitions. The group now spans mortgage and protection broking (employed, self-employed and network models), specialist finance, wealth management and home-buying services, across around 15 UK legal entities.

Finance has largely built a new group operating forecast (monthly, entity-level plus consolidation, three-statement model). The model exists - what does not yet exist is the FP&A function around it. There is no regular reforecast cadence, no board-approved budget that the business is managed against, and actuals are not yet compared to or reported against forecast or budget.

The Interim FP&A Lead will own the operating forecast, finish its build-out, operationalise it, run the 2027 budget through it with the business, and hand over a documented, working FP&A process to a permanent hire.

The VP Finance will retain ownership of the long-range plan and all board and investor-facing work; this role is the engine room. You will work alongside and closely with the Finance Manager and broader finance team who cover accounting, financial operations and external compliance/reporting.

What you will own and deliver

1. The operating forecast model

  • Take ownership of the group operating forecast as the single source of truth for short-range, detailed planning, reconciled to actuals, and producing outputs that can feed the long-range plan.
  • Prioritise and complete the outstanding build items, including working with CRM data to inform revenue drivers.

2. A working FP&A rhythm

  • Establish and run the monthly cycle including actuals-versus-forecast analysis, and reforecast cycle covering multiple scenarios as appropriate.
  • Materially contribute to establishing, delivering and improving monthly management/board reporting.

3. Ownership across the business

  • Help establish business owners for planning assumptions and get agreement / buy-in on assumptions and targets from those who will deliver them.
  • Run review sessions with budget holders; challenge assumptions constructively and record decisions.

4. The FY27 budget

  • Design and run the FY27 budget process end to end before the end of the year (31st December year-end). This would include planning / setting the timetable; project management; getting, reviewing and challenging input from the business; and facilitating review and approval by group management/board.

5. Documentation, handover and the next phase

  • Document the model, monthly cycle / reforecasting process, and budget process as you go, so that a permanent FP&A hire can pick them up with minimal overlap.
  • Support the permanent hiring process as appropriate.
  • Help the VP Finance define the target (TO-BE) state for the next phase of FP&A, including process and tooling (tooling implementation is not expected within this engagement).

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Extensive FP&A experience including: 3 statement, multi-entity (and consolidation), multi-scenario modelling; extensive revenue forecasting; getting input from business stakeholders; forecast/budget process management; variance analysis and management reporting.
  • Played a material part in establishing FP&A. You have helped take a business a meaningful distance along the journey of establishing FP&A, which might include: a working forecast cadence, a budget the business is managed against, business ownership of numbers, or role design and process improvement across FP&A. Ideally in a start-up, scale-up or acquisitive group where the starting data was imperfect, with a track record of improving processes rather than just running them.
  • Ensured business ownership. You have ensured non-finance leaders own their assumptions and numbers, run budget-holder sessions, and held the line on challenge without needing the finance lead or CEO in the room.
  • Modelling and data discipline. Advanced Excel and financial modelling with strong control conventions / approach. Also comfortable working with system extracts to understand, transform and use data using appropriate tools, and comfortable using AI assistants as part of a modelling and analysis workflow while aware of their failure modes.
  • Concise communicator with structured approach. Clear, concise and professional in writing and in meetings, including with senior stakeholders. Documentation and handover are part of how you work, not an afterthought.
  • Time to impact. Available to start in October at the latest; able to commit to six months; self-directed, fast, comfortable with ambiguity, proactive and picks things up quickly.

Desirable

  • Owned a complex model built by someone else. You have taken ownership of a complex financial model you did not build, understood it quickly, and improved and extended it without breaking it.
  • Mortgage or protection intermediation experience (procuration fees, commission and clawback, employed, self-employed adviser and network models), or similar sector experience; experience with driver-based operating models for transaction- or funnel-driven revenue.
  • System implementation: Experience choosing, implementing and/or using FP&A tooling, or defining the target state for it.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
