Description

Armand Corporation is seeking an experienced Project Architect to provide architectural, design, and construction management support for a major New York City public-sector program. The position will support the city's initiatives, construction projects, and ongoing facility repair and maintenance activities.

Working as part of an integrated project team, the Project Architect will provide technical architectural expertise throughout project planning, design, procurement, construction, and implementation. The role will include reviewing design and construction documentation, coordinating with project stakeholders and technical disciplines, identifying design and constructability issues, monitoring project progress, and providing recommendations related to design, construction, cost, schedule, risk, and facility requirements.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience supporting complex building or institutional construction projects and be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, client-facing environment with architects, engineers, construction professionals, contractors, consultants, and public-agency stakeholders.

If selected, candidates will need to provide digital proof of licensure and certification for all U.S.-based accolades, including academic degree, before time of interview. Information provided is handled with discretion and will be used purely for benefit of employment with various government agency clients and associated background checks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural and technical support throughout the planning, design, procurement, construction, and implementation phases of assigned projects.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, design submissions, construction documents, and other technical deliverables for completeness, coordination, constructability, and consistency with project requirements.
  • Provide technical recommendations regarding architectural design, materials, building systems, constructability, phasing, and implementation.
  • Coordinate architectural requirements with engineering disciplines, construction management personnel, contractors, consultants, facility representatives, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews, project planning meetings, progress meetings, working groups, and issue-resolution sessions.
  • Identify architectural and construction-related risks, conflicts, deficiencies, and potential impacts to project scope, schedule, cost, and facility operations.
  • Assist in resolving design and field conditions that arise during construction and coordinate appropriate responses with the design and construction teams.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, proposed design modifications, change-related documentation, and other construction-phase technical information as assigned.
  • Monitor construction progress and evaluate work for general conformance with approved design documents, project requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Support project leadership in evaluating design and construction alternatives and developing recommendations to address project challenges.
  • Provide architectural input regarding ongoing facility repairs, maintenance requirements, renovations, and improvements.
  • Support project planning, milestone reviews, issue escalation, and development of processes and procedures necessary for successful project implementation.
  • Contribute to weekly program updates, progress reports, working-group reports, presentations, and other client deliverables.
  • Maintain effective communication with the client, project team, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders and escalate significant technical or project issues as appropriate.
  • Perform site visits and field observations at project and client facilities throughout New York City as required.

Qualifications

Because the client scope doesn't give us formal minimum qualifications, I'd distinguish between what we can reasonably require for a Project Architect and what should remain preferred:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible architectural experience, preferably involving construction, renovation, or major capital improvement projects.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing architectural drawings, specifications, construction documents, and design submissions.
  • Experience coordinating architectural work with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other technical disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, building systems, and construction administration.
  • Ability to identify design, constructability, coordination, and field issues and develop practical recommendations for resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with architectural/document-management software.
  • Ability to work on-site at client and project locations throughout New York City.
