OVERVIEW

The Department of Community Services, Survey Section is looking for a full-time Data Technician!

In the Multnomah County Surveyor’s Office, our work starts with the Data Technician. Your job as the Data Technician is of the utmost importance because you serve as the first point of contact to the public and maintain the information the public interacts with through our Survey and Assessor Image Locator (SAIL). 

We are seeking individuals who can process work submitted for review, perform basic GIS functions, as well as provide support for the County Surveyor's Office. You are a technical assistant but also have great soft skills providing excellent customer service via phone, in person and email. You have the ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and have exceptional communication, analytical and organizational skills. 

Your main duties will include:

  • Process surveys, partition, subdivision and condominium plats submitted by Professional Land Surveyors for review by County Surveyor and staff

  • File and index records into the public survey records database and GIS

  • Maintain and support unique data applications systems

  • Collect, verify, update, and edit all required data

  • Provide support for all functions of County Surveyor’s Office

  • Interface with customers through phone, in person contact and email

  • Maintain records of all money submitted for contracts with County Surveyor

  • Archive final and all working copies of survey, partition, subdivision and condominium records per state standards

TO QUALIFY

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*

  • Equivalent to an Associate degree from an accredited college with major course work in an math, computer science, engineering, surveying technology, construction management, or related field; AND

  • One (1) year of increasingly complex administrative/technical clerical experience that includes:

    • Customer service 

    • Maintaining automated information systems

    • Experience with database, spreadsheets, and word processing software

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*

However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.   • General knowledge of the rectangular survey system.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to communicate technical data and concepts to non-technical staff and the public

  • Basic GIS skills

  • Basic MS Excel and/or Google Sheets skills

  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations and fiscal policies and procedures to assigned work functions, programs; monitor, coordinate and make adjustments to fiscal systems

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Ability to interact and work with a diverse group of people and at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to actively build and manage professional relationships with managers, staff and key external contacts

  • Ability to work effectively independently

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Type of Position: This hourly, union-represented position is eligible for overtime.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Telework - Monday & Friday, In-office - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Location: Yeon Complex - 1600 SE 190th Avenue, Portland, OR 97233

Telework: At this time, this position is designated for “hybrid telework,” meaning you will be working on-site some of the time and remotely (from home) at other times. The designation of hybrid telework may be subject to change at a future time. Currently, all employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations.

However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education.
