Description

We are seeking a Geologist to join a growing technical team supporting the development of the Thacker Pass Lithium Clay Surface Mine in northern Nevada. The operation is preparing for first ore and transitioning from a greenfield development project into an operating mine, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and long-term operation of a significant lithium mining project.

We are open to candidates across a range of experience levels—from recent geology graduates to experienced mining geologists. Responsibilities and level of ownership will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience and technical background.

The Geologist will support and, depending on experience, lead aspects of ore-control drilling, geological interpretation, block modeling, QA/QC, and production reconciliation. This position will work closely with mining operations, engineering, environmental teams, contractors, and other technical personnel across the site.

For an early-career geologist, the position offers hands-on exposure and professional development across mine geology and operations. For an experienced geologist, the role provides an opportunity to take ownership of key geological processes and contribute directly to the development and optimization of a growing mining operation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret geological, structural, geochemical, and assay data.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support ore-control drilling programs, with level of ownership based on experience.
  • Interpret drilling results and integrate geological and assay information into short-range geological, structural, and block models.
  • Support or lead ore-control activities to help ensure ore is identified and mined efficiently while meeting quality requirements.
  • Develop, update, and maintain short-range geological, structural, and assay block models used for mine planning.
  • Perform and maintain ore-control and production reconciliation tracking.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret geotechnical data.
  • Maintain geological files, QA/QC records, databases, drilling information, and physical samples.
  • Support and help maintain geological QA/QC programs to ensure accurate and reliable technical data.
  • Monitor applicable state and federal drilling permit requirements and support the protection of mineral reserves.
  • Coordinate with and provide technical oversight to drilling contractors and other contractors performing geological work.
  • Complete geological and technical studies in support of mine planning and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with mine operations, engineering, environmental, and other technical teams.
  • Provide geological guidance and technical support to operations as the project transitions into production.
  • Support environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Perform responsibilities in accordance with MSHA requirements, applicable state and federal regulations, and established safety procedures.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture.
  • Support additional mining-related projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel occasionally as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related geoscience discipline required.
  • Candidates ranging from recent graduates to experienced mining geologists are encouraged to apply.
  • For entry-level candidates, relevant internships, co-ops, field experience, research, exploration, or mining exposure is preferred but not required.
  • For experienced candidates, previous experience with surface mining, exploration drilling, ore control, geological modeling, or production geology is preferred.
  • Knowledge of geology, geochemistry, geological modeling, and/or hydrology.
  • Knowledge of or interest in sedimentary geology and lithium deposits.
  • Strong computer and data-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Maptek Vulcan, Geobank, or similar geological database and modeling software is preferred for experienced candidates and a plus for early-career candidates.
  • Experience with geological block modeling, ore-control systems, and QA/QC processes is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fleet-management-system reporting is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately collect, interpret, organize, and communicate technical information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operations personnel, engineers, environmental professionals, contractors, and other technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Depending on experience level, preferred qualifications may include:

  • Surface mining or production geology experience.
  • Exploration and/or ore-control drilling experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining geological, structural, and assay block models.
  • Ore-control planning and production reconciliation experience.
  • Geological database management and QA/QC experience.
  • Experience supervising or providing technical direction to drilling contractors.
  • Experience with lithium, sedimentary, clay-hosted, or similar mineral deposits.
  • Master’s degree in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) designation.
  • Qualified Person experience or qualifications under applicable SEC S-K 1300 and/or NI 43-101 requirements.
