IM&S Project Sourcing Specialist (Fixed Term Contract) – Thailand

Location: Bangkok, Thailand (MSD)
Function: Global Supply Chain / Indirect Procurement
Reporting to: IM&S Sr. Project Sourcing Specialist, Thailand

Role Summary

An individual contributor role responsible for supporting procurement activities related to the Thailand new plant construction project. The position works in close collaboration with Sr. Project Sourcing Specialist and Regional Indirect Procurement Manager to ensure the project procurement activities are aligned with regional and global procurement programs. This role ensures the procurement activities of the projects are completed in a timely and effective manner. In addition, the position is responsible for procurement activities of non-project indirect categories as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Category Execution & Operational Procurement

  • Identify and pre-qualify potential suppliers for the new products or services required for Thailand New Plant Construction project.
  • Assess the reliability of suppliers and their sub-suppliers.
  • Support RFP activities to ensure the tendering process is completed on time and in line with the project timeline.
  • Conduct commercial bid evaluations for assigned procurement packages and prepare recommendations for award.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to meet budget targets and required delivery timelines, and effectively manage any supplier-related challenges.
  • Ensure procurement activities are conducted transparently, and in compliance with company Purchasing policies.
  • Conduct e-bidding and onboard new suppliers using the Ariba System.
  • Work closely with Legal on assigned project contracts/ agreements
  • Responsible for non-project indirect items/ services as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Global IM&S team to ensure alignment with Procurement Policies, Procedures and SOPs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

On-Site Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with the project managers and related project team members to ensure procurement activities are handled smoothly.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across functions and provide guidance on procurement policies, processes, and supplier options related to project-based and new plant start-up activities.
  • Engage early with requestors to influence specifications, optimize cost outcomes, and ensure compliance.

Supplier Management & Sourcing Support

  • Identify and pre-qualify suppliers to ensure a healthy supplier base for the project, and new plant start-up.
  • Support sourcing projects, RFQs/ RFPs, and negotiations under the guidance of the Sr. Sourcing Specialist.
  • Manage supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance, and report corrective actions where needed.
  • Support supplier consolidation and cost saving initiatives.

Procurement Governance & Compliance

  • Execute vendor onboarding, qualification, and compliance checks in line with company policies.
  • Ensure all procurement activities adhere to internal governance standards, approval workflows, and audit requirements.
  • Support Sr. Project Sourcing Specialist or Regional Manager for supplier contracts and commitments.

Process Excellence & Reporting

  • Manage and execute procurement processes using SAP Ariba in compliance with company standards and timelines
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier master data, and contract documentation.
  • Support spends reporting, saving tracking, and KPI reporting for the Thailand New Chemical Plant Project.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in indirect procurement, sourcing, or operational buying, preferably within multinational companies.
  • Experience in project procurement, construction projects, or CAPEX sourcing is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of major indirect categories such as MRO, Laboratory, facility services, IT, office, PPE, or professional services.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently in an on-site role.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and business English.
  • High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and business English.
  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and process discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP ERP and SAP Ariba (Guided Buying, SLP, Sourcing module).
  • Exposure to regional or multinational procurement environments.
  • Familiarity with Thailand local supplier markets across multiple indirect categories.

Business Travel Requirement

Primarily based in Bangkok with occasional travel (up to 10%) for supplier visits, site assessments, and regional team meetings as needed.

  • Manage end-to-end procurement activities for project-related sourcing, including supplier identification, RFQs/RFPs, and contract negotiations
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Project Management, Engineering, Finance, and Legal to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Exposure to regional sourcing programs, governance frameworks, and supplier development initiatives.
  • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced project environment, managing multiple priorities and tight timelines.
