Job Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY AND OVERVIEW STATEMENT

Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Department Director, develops and provides services for active Behavioral Health treatment cases and Healing Recovery and Wellness program participan (formerly the Substance Use Disorder program) re: psychopharmacological consultation, evaluation and on-going treatment and monitoring. Works closely with Behavioral Health department clinicians and the Healing, Recovery and Wellness program, to ensure continuity of care. Consults with the Southern Jamaica Plain Community Health Center Providers across departments to address psychopharmacological needs of the SJPCHC adult population and offers on-going consultation and support to clinical teams. Works closely with primary care providers in managing Behavioral Health care. Works with a commitment to health equity.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Evaluates patients for psychopharmacological interventions and becomes part of the treatment team when indicated. Works closely with the patients’ primary therapist to coordinate treatment. Provides psychiatric review of cases in team meeting.

2. Provides consultation to Behavioral Health clinicians and medical staff regarding psychopharmacological interventions for persons with addictions and in recovery.

4. Provides direct services to such clients as indicated, carrying a caseload of individual treatment and medication follow-up visits as clinically indicated.

5. Serves as a consultant to the Behavioral Health team as well as the larger health center primary care team. Attends Behavioral Health clinical team meetings for adult patients.

6. Offers in-service training programs to Behavioral Health team and the larger health center team regarding issues of medication updates, indicated uses of anxiolytic and anti-depressant medications as well as cultural issues related to medication usage.

7. Assists with crisis intervention as needed, particularly evaluation for in-patient hospitalization as needed.

8. Fulfills administrative and record keeping responsibilities including all documentation in the electronic medical record, including documentation of medications, medication reconciliation and lab reports.

9. Is available during hours of operation of the Behavioral Health Department.

10. Co-signs treatment plans of clinicians as needed in the Behavioral Health Department.

11. In collaboration with Behavioral Health Director, and Family team coordinator oversees Utilization Review process.

12. In collaboration with Behavioral Health Director, assists in overseeing clinical care provided in Behavioral Health Department. Ensures that services are of optimal quality and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, hospital standards, and ethical principles.


 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an APA approved psychiatric residency (experience in community psychiatry preferred.)

  • Licensed to practice psychiatry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Minimum two years post graduate training in mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

  • Bilingual, Spanish and English, preferred.

  • Demonstrated cultural competence in working with a diverse ethnic population.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Sensitivity to various cultures and lifestyles.

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams of providers – mental health, substance abuse, advocates and primary care providers.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Demonstrated flexibility, autonomy and capacity for necessary decision-making.

  • Knowledge of community issues and resources, health care utilization patterns of residents and ability to apply this knowledge to treatment planning, especially with patients with poor compliance rates.

The starting salary is equivalent to $195,000 annually for a full-time position; salary will be prorated based on the part-time schedule.
