The Opportunity

As a Modeling Actuary on the Dividend Analytics team, you will help build, maintain, and enhance the Python-based actuarial models and applications that support MassMutual's participating whole life products and dividend management processes. Working at the intersection of actuarial expertise and modern model development, you will partner with subject matter experts to translate complex business and modeling requirements into sustainable, well-governed solutions.

You will play a key role in the evolution of a modernized modeling platform, ensuring critical business models remain accurate, supportable, and adaptable as business needs evolve. Successful candidates will develop expertise in participating whole life products and dividend management concepts while helping advance the organization's long-term modeling capabilities.

The Team

The Dividend Analytics team sits within the DIMES organization in Corporate Actuarial and plays a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the models and analytics behind MassMutual's annual dividend, a direct reflection of the company’s long-standing commitment to sharing its financial success with participating policyowners.

As a member of this small, highly specialized team with deep business and modeling expertise, you will play a central role in modernizing the team's dividend models within a Python environment while strengthening the team's long-term modeling, governance, and analytical capabilities.

The Impact

  • Primarily responsible for the conversion, ongoing enhancement, and long-term ownership of the Python-based dividend modeling platform supporting MassMutual's participating whole life products.
  • Translate business requirements, model enhancements, and analytical requests into maintainable, well-documented solutions.
  • Partner with actuarial subject matter experts to support model validation, testing, and production readiness.
  • Promote sound development standards, testing frameworks, documentation, and modeling best practices.
  • Over time, take on broader responsibilities within Dividend Analytics, extending beyond the modeling platform into the team's core analytical and dividend-setting work, including assumption development, regulatory testing, and dividend liability analysis.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative or technical field.
  • ASA designation.
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience within insurance, financial services, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of Python programming experience supporting analytical, actuarial, or modeling applications.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, validating, or enhancing actuarial, financial, or other complex quantitative models.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into maintainable solutions while independently managing multiple priorities.

The Ideal Qualifications

  • FSA designation.
  • Experience with the design, pricing, modeling, or inforce management of participating life insurance products.
  • Experience modernizing or converting legacy actuarial models into modern platforms.
  • Understanding of model controls, governance, and risk management, including the ability to implement model development and management best practices.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical audiences and navigate ambiguity.
