Maintenance Area Manager / Maintenance Operations ManagerRole Summary
The Maintenance Area Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of a distribution center maintenance team, ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical facility and warehouse equipment. This role oversees maintenance programs for material handling equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, refrigeration equipment, and building infrastructure while driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and cost management. The ideal candidate is a people-focused leader who can develop high-performing teams, improve equipment uptime, optimize maintenance processes, and support the facility's operational goals through proactive maintenance and continuous improvement.About the Team
The Maintenance team plays a critical role in keeping Walmart's supply chain moving. By maintaining the equipment, systems, and infrastructure that power our distribution network, the team enables safe, efficient, and reliable operations for associates, customers, and members. Working in a fast-paced environment, the team partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Asset Protection leaders to drive equipment reliability, improve productivity, and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental standards. Through innovation, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement, the team helps deliver world-class service across Walmart's distribution network.What You'll Do
Lead Maintenance Operations
- Oversee daily maintenance operations to ensure the reliability and performance of warehouse equipment and facility systems.
- Manage maintenance programs for material handling equipment, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, air compressors, refrigeration equipment, and building infrastructure.
- Prioritize work, assign resources, and coordinate schedules to support operational goals and minimize downtime.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.
Drive Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA, environmental, hazardous waste, storm water, and other applicable regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring associates are properly trained and operating in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and corrective action planning to maintain safe working conditions.
- Support and enforce maintenance standards and regulatory requirements across the facility.
Develop and Lead Talent
- Build and lead a high-performing maintenance team through coaching, feedback, and development.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, performance management, and succession planning activities.
- Identify training needs and support associate growth through mentoring and career development opportunities.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and talent development initiatives.
Improve Operational Performance
- Analyze maintenance metrics, equipment trends, and business reports to identify improvement opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, reduce downtime, and enhance service levels.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges and improve facility performance.
- Implement new technologies and maintenance best practices to improve operational effectiveness.
Manage Financial Performance
- Monitor maintenance expenses, capital projects, and asset utilization within assigned areas.
- Track operational and financial performance against budget and business objectives.
- Develop and execute plans to optimize costs while maintaining high levels of service and equipment reliability.
- Utilize reporting and data analysis to support informed business decisions.
What You'll Bring
- Experience leading maintenance operations within a distribution, manufacturing, supply chain, industrial, or logistics environment.
- Knowledge of facility systems, material handling equipment, refrigeration systems, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience managing safety programs and regulatory compliance requirements.

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Associate's Degree or Technical School Certification in an Industrial related field and 1 year related maintenance department supervisory experience OR Bachelor's Degree in a Business, Industrial, or related field OR 1 year supervisory experience in a maintenance related environment supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees OR 2 year Walmart Logistics maintenance experience including six months experience leading a work or project team (e.g. risk control) OR 2 years supervisory experience in an industrial related environment; supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees with 1 year experience in the maintenance field.Associates will be required to attend and successfully complete all job-required trainings and assessments (for example, Academy trainings, Open Door trainings, etc.).
