HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
BIG EQUIPMENT. REAL WORK. KEEP THE QUARRY MOVING.
If you know your way around a loader, dozer, or excavator — we want you in the driver’s seat!
York Building Products is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our quarry team. You’ll be behind the controls, moving rock, gravel, and other materials while keeping production safe, efficient, and on schedule.
This is a hands-on, outdoor job where you’ll work around some serious equipment and play an important role in keeping the quarry moving.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Run the big stuff! Operate front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
- Load, move, and transport rock, gravel, and other quarry materials to the right place at the right time.
- Build and move stockpiles and keep material flowing throughout the quarry.
- Perform pre- and post-trip equipment inspections — check fluids, tires, safety components, and overall equipment condition.
- Complete daily equipment checklists and report mechanical or safety issues before they become bigger problems.
- Keep an eye on your equipment and document any issues that pop up during your shift.
- Communicate with the crew to keep equipment, traffic, and production moving safely and efficiently.
- Follow all YBP safety procedures, PPE requirements, and MSHA regulations.
- Jump in and help wherever needed, including cleanup, troubleshooting, road repairs, blasting support, excavation, and plant equipment.
- Keep your work area safe and clean.
- Treat customers, coworkers, and management with professionalism and respect.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE CREW
- Proven heavy equipment operating experience.
- Mining, quarry, or aggregate experience is a major plus.
- Ability to safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- Solid understanding of heavy equipment operation, safety, and maintenance.
- Good problem-solving skills — when something goes wrong, you know how to think on your feet.
- Comfortable using electronic equipment and software associated with modern heavy machinery.
- Able to adapt to changing conditions, traffic, weather, and unexpected situations.
- Dependable and ready to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and weekends during peak times.
- Comfortable working long hours and traveling throughout the mine site.
THIS ISN'T YOUR AVERAGE OFFICE JOB.
You’ll be working in an active quarry surrounded by heavy equipment, moving material, dust, noise, vibration, and changing weather.
Some days are hot. Some days are cold. Some days are muddy.
But if you like big machines, outdoor work, and seeing exactly what you accomplished at the end of the day — this is the place for you.
THE PHYSICAL SIDE
You’ll need to be comfortable:
- Climbing on and off heavy equipment.
- Sitting and operating equipment for extended periods.
- Walking, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Performing equipment inspections and light maintenance.
- Working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Staying alert and focused around moving equipment and active quarry operations.
