Manager Manufacturing Solution Prep - Nights
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will champion a safe and compliant production environment through structured on-the-floor presence. This role will also be well positioned to champion problem solving and continuous improvement among the team and in collaboration with cross-functional partners in Quality, EHSS, F&E, and Process Development. The manager will be an active player in our OnePlant operating model, building reliability, agility, and efficiency through our I-530 pathway and Agile Workforce.
The Front-Line Manager will collaborate routinely with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Engineering, Facilities and Engineering, Maintenance, Process Development, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, Regulatory Compliance, and other site functions. This role requires strong technical ownership of manufacturing operations, disciplined execution of cGMP and safety expectations, and the ability to make timely decisions in a dynamic production environment.
With minimal direction, the Manager is responsible for leading on-the-floor operations and staff in manufacturing. The Manager will supervise, coach, hire, onboard, and develop manufacturing staff while ensuring that team members are trained, capable, engaged, and prepared to meet production requirements. The Front-Line Manager will help define area objectives, identify improvement opportunities, lead change efforts, and deliver against short- and long-term AR5 manufacturing goals.
This leader will be expected to strengthen reliability, improve operational efficiency, enable agility for future business needs, and support AR5’s commitment to being the best place for talent.
The on-boarding phase for this role will last 2-6 weeks, during which time successful incumbents will be on an administrative schedule (Monday through Friday, approximately 8am to 5pm). Following the on-boarding phase, the successful incumbent will be expected to join a shift team working a 12-hour shift. The shift pattern will be 7pm -7am (C or D shift) with a two-week rotation covering 7 days per week. The rotating shift offers several benefits such as, an average of 14 days on shift per month with every other weekend off and 15% shift differential.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Safety and Quality Oversight: The cornerstone of our operations are safe and compliant execution by the manufacturing team - own and reinforce the strong safety and quality culture within the shift and ensure standards are upheld through active engagement and coaching.
Operational Leadership: Lead the shift and collaborate with peer managers to reliably deliver production targets. Coordinate daily task allocation and plan ahead with the scheduling team for short- to mid-term schedule needs. Provide Purposeful Presence on the Floor (Gemba) to monitor overall department performance, provide coaching, and ensure consistency with our core Floor Operating Principles. Coordinate with support functions to troubleshoot, identify and resolve issues as needed while on shift.
Talent Development: Mentor and develop talent, fostering an environment of engagement, belonging, continuous learning, and operational excellence. Build a high-performing team, ensuring accountability and advancing technical and leadership capabilities.
Continuous Improvement, Innovation, and Process Enhancement: Identify and drive process improvement initiatives to support higher efficiency and eliminate non-value-added activities.
Agile Workforce Leadership: Role model ARI Manufacturing’s Agile Workforce behaviors by planning and executing cross-training and dynamic resource allocation across AR5 and AR30 that enhances responsiveness and productivity while increasing opportunities for staff development.
Leading Strategy Development and Execution
Assist in developing and implementing departmental strategy and plans aligned with broader AR5, ARI, and site manufacturing objectives.
Translate strategic priorities into clear daily, weekly, and shift-level execution plans.
Anticipate operational, quality, safety, training, and schedule risks and build contingencies to reduce impact.
Deliver strong business results through continuous improvement, standardization, and disciplined execution.
Use metrics, audit outcomes, process data, and staff feedback to identify trends and improve performance.
Lead change efforts that improve safety, compliance, quality, efficiency, throughput, and reliability.
Ensure the team understands how daily execution connects to Amgen’s mission, patient impact, and AR5 business priorities.

Be responsible for selection, onboarding, training, evaluation, staff relations, performance management, and development of manufacturing staff.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience OR
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience OR
Master’s degree and 3 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience OR
Doctorate degree
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in Life Sciences or Engineering
Knowledge and experience within a cGMP or other highly regulated environment including a basic understanding of technical elements across engineering, biological or chemical processing
Skilled in change management, team building, and fostering innovation
Excellent communication skills, drive, sense of urgency, and analytical problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated experience in applying Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing
Experience with performance management including coaching, conflict resolution and performance reviews
Ability to be flexible and manage change
Demonstrated ability to forge and maintain strong relationships with other functional areas
User-level fluency with digital tools for daily management, data analysis and visualization, and application of Artificial Intelligence (e.g, Copilot, Chat GPT, etc)

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
