Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Coordinates and completes the maintenance and servicing of Roads & Grounds equipment and machinery.
  • Assesses needs and develops equipment specifications for purchasing of maintenance machinery and various fleet-related equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and determines repair and maintenance needs for gas/diesel, electronic, and hydraulic systems and equipment including hand and riding mowers, chain saws, sprayers, trimmers, snowplows, tractors, trucks, lifts, pumps, equipment implements, and other associated equipment.
  • Assists in establishing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assists in preventive maintenance performed by crews.
  • Performs repairs using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and test devices.
  • Equipment and tools used include: hand tools and specialized equipment such as torque wrenches, test devices such as volt-ohm meters and amperages meters.
  • Repairs and/or fabricates parts for special tools as needed.
  • Evaluates needs and locates and orders parts for inventory as needed.
  • Responds to field repair requests as needed and performs necessary repairs on-site.
  • Maintains shop tools and equipment including stationary and portable power tools.
  • Operates all vehicles and equipment for test purposes and, under extenuating circumstances, operates any vehicle in the field as back-up to other operators.
  • Makes modifications to trucks as needed, which may include lift gates, storage racks, diesel tanks, hitches, installing spray tanks, safety lights and other specialized adjustments.
  • Performs snow removal duties utilizing a variety of equipment.
  • Is available for inclement weather situations and may be deemed essential personnel.
  • Maintains equipment files and documents work performed and parts needed.
  • Makes recommendations regarding equipment/materials purchases and coordinates purchasing process with the Assistant Director of Roads & Grounds.
  • Assists with the Departmental Asset Management Program in regards to fleet and equipment.
  • Checks new equipment/materials against ordering specifications and performs thorough inspections and tests.
  • Utilizes the Emory Express and Emory Corporate Purchasing card procurement systems and maintains appropriate records.
  • Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the Roads and Grounds Department.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, plus five years of experience in commercial grounds maintenance equipment and fleet maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop or twist.
