What is the Opportunity?

The Director, Emerging Payments leads the Emerging Payments product team and will be responsible for the following mandates:

  • Leading and managing the bank’s current payment product portfolio (Interac e-Transfer capabilities, Request To Pay, Online Tax Filing (OLTF), and Transactional Risk), while architecting our vision for optimal payment solutions and emerging payment opportunities.

  • Launching our Real-Time Rail (RTR) (i.e. Real-Time Payment) capabilities for commercial banking portfolio, including driving the commercialization strategy and activities to drive growth and adoption. 

  • Evolving our emerging payments portfolio through the evolving payments landscape and maintaining a pulse on the competitive and market landscape with respect to payments end-to-end.

  • Managing a dedicated team of product managers, helping each member to identify and achieve their professional and career developmental goals, and fostering a collaborative work environment

What Will You Do?

Product Leadership & Strategy

  • Drive the product vision, strategy and development with respect to Interac e-Transfer capabilities and launch of Real-Time Rail (RTR) for commercial clients as a critical component of the bank’s broader payment ecosystem.

  • Lead the end-to-end creation and development of our emerging payments product strategy and formulate the short and long-term visions of the product roadmap (Interac, RTR, OLTF).

  • Contribute to and execute against the new-products roadmap, while providing clear, timely status updates on progress, risks, and trade-offs

  • Set and communicate product vision and strategic direction; hold your team accountable to outcomes and outputs; maintain competitive awareness of payments landscape, industry changes, and emerging trends.

  • Collaborate and manage vendor relationships, including engagements with industry partners

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a team of product managers; establish standards for product discipline, prioritization, and execution

  • Collaborate within the wider product organization

  • Grow and develop team members in line with professional developmental goals

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Delivery

  • Partner with Technology, Operations, Lines of Business, Legal, Risk, and Compliance to translate product requirements into delivered capabilities; engage Lines of Business, as primary customers, ground products in real client needs.

  • Craft compelling product narratives and business cases to secure investment and stakeholder alignment

  • Communicate seamlessly across all audience levels from executive narratives to detailed working sessions on product direction and impact

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must Have

  • 5+ years in product management, including 3+ years with full P&L/business accountability for a product line and proven track record of launching products and enhancing existing products to quantified objectives (e.g. revenue, adoption, retention). 

  • Experience with payment products, Interac and/or real-time payments, and thought leadership regarding emerging technology changes (i.e., API’s, embedded payments, etc.).

  • 2+ years people management/ leadership experience

  • Experience setting product vision and roadmaps for teams and holding them accountable to outcomes through in-house build and delivery

  • Effective communication skills with ability to seamlessly shift between executive-level narratives and detailed working sessions; proven capability to craft compelling product stories to secure investments.

  • Excellent communication skills across all audience levels with proven ability to craft compelling executive-level product narratives to secure stakeholder investment.

  • Data-driven and customer-centric mindset with demonstrated ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to inform decisions

  • Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and capability to influence without direct authority

  • Experience with managing and working with vendor relationships and driving towards desired business outcomes

Nice to Have

  • RBC experience (e.g., P&L, Channels/Digital or equivalent).

  • Prior experience with emerging payment technologies and a pulse on the payments landscape.
