Job Title: Associate Scientist – Analytical Sciences
City, Country: Shanghai (Minhang), China
Join our China Analytical Sciences team and contribute to innovation projects across nutrition, health, beauty, and care. In this role, you will develop robust mass spectrometry and chromatographic methods, identify unknown compounds, and translate complex analytical results into practical solutions through analytical problem-solving and data-driven insights. This role offers broad exposure to diverse products, technologies, and global collaborations.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional S&R and innovation projects, partnering with life science, biotechnology, process, regulatory, and business teams to address analytical and scientific questions across early-stage research and preclinical studies.
- Plan and execute quantitative and qualitative analytical experiments, including sample preparation, instrument operation, data processing, and method performance assessment using LC-MS, HRMS, GC-MS, and complementary techniques.
- Identify and characterize unknown compounds, impurities, and degradation products, leveraging high-resolution mass spectrometry and complementary analytical techniques to support scientific understanding and project decision-making.
- Design, develop, and optimize fit-for-purpose analytical methods to support S&R and preclinical studies, selecting appropriate analytical approaches and adapting methods to evolving project needs.
- Interpret complex analytical data, troubleshoot analytical challenges, and provide scientifically sound recommendations, communicating findings clearly to project partners and translating analytical results into actionable R&D insights.
- Document analytical work and results accurately and work safely and compliantly, following laboratory procedures, quality standards, and applicable SOPs.

You Bring
- M.Sc. with 3+ years of work experience, or a recent PhD in analytical chemistry, natural products chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical science, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of chromatography–mass spectrometry techniques, including LC-MS and/or HRMS.
- Demonstrated capability in analytical method development, optimization, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as unknown compound or impurity identification.
- Experience in metabolite analysis is an advantage.
- Hands-on familiarity with complementary techniques such as FTIR, UV, GPC, or NMR is an advantage.
- Analytical curiosity, data-driven thinking, clear communication, collaboration, and a strong commitment to laboratory safety.
