Description
Eaton’s ES GEIS CHD division is currently seeking a Product Engineer - Sustaining. This role is onsite at our GEIS headquarters in Syracuse, NY. Relocation is not provided.
The Syracuse, NY site core competencies are iron & aluminum foundries, machining, plating, and assembly. Manufacturing about 1 million units per month, the Syracuse team places high value on talented professionals who are focused on problem solving and efficiency.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
## What you’ll do:
This position is accountable for providing technical leadership and sustaining engineering support across Eaton's portfolio of hazardous and industrial electrical products, including luminaires, power distribution and control systems, enclosures, fittings, cable tray systems, and related components. This role owns product lifecycle management activities and ensures products remain safe, compliant, manufacturable, cost competitive, and aligned with customer and business needs
The Sustaining Engineer independently develops and maintains engineering documentation including CAD models, drawings, technical specifications, bills of material (BOMs), engineering change orders (ECOs), work instructions, and standard operating procedures. The incumbent leads complex engineering investigations, cost reduction initiatives, supplier transitions, product enhancement projects, quality improvements, and regulatory compliance activities while balancing technical, commercial, and operational objectives.
The role requires the ability to exercise sound engineering judgment when addressing product and process issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and recommend effective solutions aligned with preferred manufacturing methods and processes.
This position requires advanced knowledge of engineering processes, manufacturing techniques, quality systems, and information systems, and operates with broad latitude in decision making and independent execution. Key skills include advanced product design principles, engineered material selection, design to cost analysis, project management, cross functional team collaboration, technical report writing, computer assisted design (CAD), and proficiency with standard PC based spreadsheet and word processing tools.
## Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of product engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical products knowledge.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of Quality systems.
- Proficiency with Engineering software (Solid Works and AutoCAD preferred).
- Proficiency with Product Data Management systems (preferably SAP, Enovia).
- Project Management experience.
