The Opportunity
BlackBerry is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to provide contract support across our Corporate Accounting and Accounting Operations teams during a NetSuite ERP reimplementation.
This is a hands-on role for an accomplished accounting professional who can quickly take ownership of key accounting activities, maintain the quality and continuity of close and reporting processes, and contribute to a significant systems transformation. You’ll combine strong technical accounting and general ledger expertise with practical NetSuite experience, working across both day-to-day accounting operations and ERP-related activities. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable operating independently, navigating competing priorities, investigating complex accounting issues and working collaboratively with stakeholders to get to the right outcome.
Bring your accounting expertise to a role where you can make a visible difference!
What You’ll Do:
- Own key accounting activities including the preparation, review and approval of journal entries for accruals, reclassifications, fixed assets, intangible assets and other accounting adjustments.
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, ensuring assigned activities are accurate, well-controlled and completed within established timelines.
- Perform detailed balance sheet and general ledger analysis, including fixed asset, lease and intangible asset continuity schedules, investigating unusual balances, fluctuations, reconciling items and data inconsistencies.
- Maintain strong accounting and control standards, ensuring financial records and assigned activities comply with U.S. GAAP, SOX controls and internal accounting policies.
- Play an active role in the NetSuite ERP reimplementation, gathering accounting requirements, coordinating inputs from Accounting Operations and cross-functional stakeholders, tracking issues and supporting project deliverables.
- Support data cleansing, migration and validation, reviewing accounting data, mappings, reconciliations, financial statement integrations and reporting outputs to help ensure data is complete, accurate and reliable.
- Identify and resolve accounting and systems issues, applying sound judgement, critical thinking and strong attention to detail to investigate root causes and recommend practical solutions.
- Partner across Corporate Accounting and Accounting Operations, providing hands-on support for evolving priorities, process improvements, ERP activities and special projects.
What You’ll Bring:
- Demonstrated ability to independently own complex general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, account reconciliations, fixed assets and intangible assets.
- Able to take ownership of complex or ambiguous accounting issues, determine the appropriate accounting treatment or path to resolution, and communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong experience managing key components of month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, with accountability for accuracy, completeness and delivery against deadlines.
- Ability to review and analyse balance sheet accounts and continuity schedules, investigate unusual balances and reconciling items, identify root causes and drive issues through to resolution.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience applying accounting policies and judgements to day-to-day and more complex accounting matters.
- Experience working within a SOX-controlled environment, with an understanding of financial controls, supporting documentation and audit requirements.
- Hands-on NetSuite ERP experience, with the ability to confidently navigate general ledger transactions, financial data, reconciliations and reporting.
- Strong Microsoft Excel capability, including analysing and reconciling large or complex financial datasets and identifying inconsistencies.
- Demonstrated ability to identify accounting, process and data issues, assess their impact and recommend practical solutions, rather than simply escalating issues for resolution.
- Ability to review the work of others and provide appropriate challenge, ensuring accounting outputs are accurate, complete and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Experience working across Accounting, Finance and other cross-functional teams, with the confidence to gather information, challenge where necessary and communicate accounting requirements clearly.
- Ability to operate independently in a changing environment, prioritising competing deliverables, exercising sound judgement and escalating material risks appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Professional accounting designation such as CPA Canada or U.S. CPA.
- Experience supporting an ERP implementation or reimplementation, ideally involving Finance or Accounting processes.
- Practical experience with financial data migration, cleansing, mapping, system testing, reconciliation and validation.
- Experience contributing to accounting process improvement, standardisation or finance transformation initiatives.
If you thrive on ownership, problem-solving and turning complex financial data into accurate, reliable outcomes, we’d like to hear from you.
