Registered Dietitian (PRN/Contingent)

Location: West Bloomfield, MIEmployment Type: PRN / Contingent (Per Diem)

 

Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Registered Dietitian to join our multidisciplinary care team on a PRN/Contingent basis. In this role, you will serve as the nutrition expert for patients receiving behavioral health services, using evidence-based nutrition practices to promote wellness, support recovery, and assist in the management of medical and psychiatric conditions.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field acceptable for licensure.
  • Experience working with patients diagnosed with eating disorders and substance use disorders strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, hospital, or residential treatment settings preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential required, or registration as required by the state, or eligibility for endorsement in the state where services are provided.
  • Current ServSafe Certification or comparable food safety certification, required.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • ​Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling.  
  • ​Approve patient menus and nutritional supplements. 
  • ​Advise patients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications and food selection and preparation.  
  • ​Provide nutritional assessments per facility policy and regulation. 
  • ​Review and approve menus developed by the facility.  
  • ​Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life. 
  • ​Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient.  
  • ​Participate in treatment team as appropriate. 
  • ​Review and approve facility diet manual annually in conjunction with medical staff.  
  • ​Promote better health by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.  
  • ​Monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards as needed. 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:  

  • ​Perform other functions and tasks as assigned. 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • ​Bachelor's degree from an accredited University in Dietetics, Nutrition or similar field acceptable for licensure.   
  • ​Experience with Eating Disorders and Substance use strongly preferred in facilities working with those patient populations.  

 

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:  

  • ​Current registered dietician or registration as required by state or eligible for endorsement by the state in which the facility provides services. 
  • ​ServSafe certification or similar food safety certification where required by the state or facility.
