Role Summary 

The Actuarial Innovation team is a forward-looking group focused on advancing actuarial capabilities through modern data, analytics, automation, and technology solutions. The Actuarial Support Clerk supports Corporate Actuarial functions, including Valuation, the Modeling Center of Excellence (MCOE), and other enterprise stakeholders by helping improve data usage, streamline actuarial processes, and advance strategic initiatives across the organization. 

This short-term role collaborates with actuaries, data engineers, IT teams, and enterprise partners to support data processing, actuarial modeling automation, post-processing, reporting, visualization, and process improvement efforts that strengthen the company’s actuarial ecosystem. 

This role is well suited for someone interested in data analytics, process improvement, emerging technologies such as AI and automation, with a willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute in a professional team environment. 

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule of 24-40 hours weekly for a 3-month fixed term, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days.  Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform data processing, validation, and transformation to support Valuation, the Modeling Center of Excellence (MCOE), and broader CFO analytics needs. 
  • Support the development and enhancement of the Actuarial Data Platform (ADP), including data pipeline improvements, infrastructure stability, and workflow optimization. 
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to improve actuarial processes, strengthen data quality, and increase operational efficiency. 
  • Support the research, development, testing, and documentation of automated actuarial modeling processes. 
  • Collaborate with actuaries, data engineers, and IT partners to convert manual or semi-automated modeling workflows into scalable automated solutions. 
  • Assist with post-processing, reconciliation, and validation of actuarial model outputs to support reporting and analysis. 
  • Support process standardization, automation, and quality control efforts to help reduce operational risk. 
  • Assist in developing dashboards, visualizations, and storytelling tools using platforms such as Tableau. 
  • Support ad hoc analytics, reporting, and process improvement initiatives across Corporate Actuarial and CFO-related functions. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn. 
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to contribute effectively in a professional team environment. 
  • Ability to work 24-40 hours onsite weekly for a 3-month fixed term

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel, SQL, Python, or other analytical tools. 
  • Previous internship, project experience, or coursework in insurance, risk management, actuarial science, or data analytics.

Base Pay Range.  The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors.  The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
