Job Description Summary

The Sterile Processing Instrument and Device Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the management, tracking, quality assurance, and lifecycle of surgical instruments and reusable medical devices. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, this role plays a critical part in coordinating instrument flow, vendor tray logistics, and ensuring timely availability of instruments across all supported locations. The coordinator collaborates with Sterile Processing, Operating Room coordinators, and leadership to maintain compliance, efficiency, and patient safety.

Job Description

Education and Work Experience:

  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency required.
  • Must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing form CRCST – HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of sterile processing experience in sterile processing and/or Operating Room.
  • Knowledge of sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of instrument names, functions, and specialty sets.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and recordkeeping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certification (CIS, CER, CHL) preferred.
  • Previous supervisory and/or education experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems.

Licensures, Registrations, Certifications:

  • CRCST – HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)

Additional Job Description

Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination and must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing from HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) and have at least three (3) years of experience in sterile processing and/or leadership role.  Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and/or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification preferred.  Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes.  Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Basic computer skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required. Leadership, supervisory or management experience preferred.  Excellent interpersonal skills required.  Detail oriented required.  Travel may be required.  Holiday work and emergency management/disaster team work required.
