Description
Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.
We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.
Summary:
We are currently seeking a Senior Legal Accounting Consultant to join our Customer Success team in Dublin or London
We’re looking for someone dynamic and skilled who brings exceptional accounting expertise and a passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences. As our ideal candidate, you thrive in customer interactions and enjoy helping law firms achieve their accounting goals with compliant bookkeeping practices, client accounting, and well configured reports. You’ll provide expert accounting consultancy to help our customers in the UK optimise their accounting practices using Clio’s suite of products.
As the first accounting consultant in our EMEA Customer Success team, you’ll be the go-to expert on client accounting and compliance for customers and colleagues in the United Kingdom, predominantly in England and Wales. This position requires a deep understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles, the rules that govern how law firms handle client money, and the needs of legal professionals in the UK.
What your team does:
Our Customer Success team is hyper-focused on providing an exceptional experience to Clio customers. We’re a dedicated team who enjoy what we do and are serious about making a positive impact on our customers’ businesses. Our team members are smart, engaged, resourceful, and driven. They lean into our values by thriving as a team and approaching situations with optimism and a solutions-oriented, human-centred mindset to help each other and help our customers win. In this role, you’ll partner with our accounting consultants in North America and work closely with our EMEA Onboarding, Customer Success, and Support teams, as well as our Product and Sales teams.
What you’ll work on:
- Advising customers in the UK on accounting and bookkeeping best practices for law firms, including client account management, office account bookkeeping, and VAT.
- Acting as the regional subject matter expert on client money compliance, helping firms set up Clio in ways that support their obligations under the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules in England and Wales, and equivalent rules in Scotland, Northern Ireland, including determining which reporting approach will satisfy specific compliance requirements.
- Leading the resolution of complex client accounting issues and escalations, including reconciliation differences, client ledger corrections, and account migrations, diagnosing whether a discrepancy is caused by user error, system configuration, or an underlying product issue, and working closely with our Support, Product, and Engineering teams to resolve it.
- Playing a key role in product development as we expand Clio’s accounting products in the UK by testing UK-specific workflows, shaping best-practice guidance, and helping our teams and customers adopt new accounting capabilities.
- Elevating customer proficiency through targeted training and specialised advice sessions, e.g., on how to categorise expenses, create expense profiles, or treat disbursements for VAT purposes within Clio’s suite of products.
- Developing and implementing tailored bookkeeping and accounting workflows and processes aligned with industry best practices and UK regulatory requirements.
- Helping customers implement accounting set-ups that suit their firms and supporting them as they move from other systems, such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, or legal-specific accounting software.
- Guiding customers on accounting integrations and system configuration, including chart of accounts design, bank feeds, and VAT settings.
- Serving as a trusted advisor throughout each customer’s adoption journey, offering ongoing guidance on accounting questions and challenges while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.
- Creating and delivering customised training materials, documentation, and resources that support customers’ ongoing education.
- Upskilling our EMEA Onboarding, Customer Success, and Support teams, including reviewing and correcting Help Centre and support documentation for accuracy, so they can confidently handle complex accounting and client money queries.
- Continuously assessing and proposing improvements to our accounting products to the Product team, based on customer needs, feedback, and sales performance.
- Championing the voice of UK customers with internal and external stakeholders, sharing insights that help shape our products around local requirements.
- Collaborating with our Sales team and prospects to position the value of accounting consultancy and help close opportunities.
What you bring:
- A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (or accounting consultancy experience), including at least two years working with law firms or handling client money.
- Hands-on knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and how law firms manage client and office accounts, including reconciliations, client ledgers, and the correction of breaches.
- A solid understanding of UK VAT as it applies to law firms, including the treatment of disbursements and Making Tax Digital.
- A strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to analyse complex accounting processes.
- A detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality work within project deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting and compliance topics in plain English.
- Genuine empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to make customers feel appreciated and valued.
- A proactive and self-motivated mindset, constantly thinking outside the box to find creative solutions where appropriate.
- Proficiency in configuring and customising accounting software and integrations, such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, or Sage, to meet customer requirements.
Serious bonus points if you have:
- A recognised accounting qualification, such as ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA Ireland, or AAT.
- A legal finance qualification, such as the Institute of Legal Finance & Management (ILFM) Diploma, or experience as a legal cashier, finance manager, or Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) in a law firm.
- Knowledge of accounting rules in other markets like the Republic of Ireland

- A strong understanding of cloud-based legal technology and the needs of legal professionals.
- Proven experience in accounting system implementations or data migrations, ideally within the legal software or technology industry.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify customer preferences.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to build rapport with customers.
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound professional judgement.
