This position will support ChristianaCare Newark Emergency Department (CCHS Newark ED) accounts and may occasionally provide coverage at other assigned client locations as needed.
Job Summary
PATHS, LLC is seeking a Hospital Representative / Account Representative to support Eligibility Services for patients receiving care through ChristianaCare Newark Emergency Department (CCHS Newark ED).
This position is responsible for screening uninsured and underinsured patients for government-sponsored healthcare programs, including Medicaid and other financial assistance programs. The Hospital Representative will work directly with patients in the Emergency Department, as well as conduct telephone outreach and follow-up with referred patients identified through hospital call reports.
The successful candidate will assist patients throughout the application process, including gathering required documentation, submitting applications to the appropriate state agencies, monitoring application status, and following up with state representatives as needed. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively interact with patients, healthcare staff, and government agencies in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Screening & Eligibility Services
- Screen uninsured and underinsured patients for Medicaid, Charity Care, and other healthcare assistance programs.
- Meet with patients bedside in the Emergency Department to obtain demographic, financial, and insurance information.
- Conduct telephone outreach to referred patients generated through hospital call reports.
- Follow up with patients regarding eligibility requirements, requested documentation, and application status.
- Verify insurance coverage and identify available healthcare assistance programs.
- Obtain, review, and organize required documentation for application submission.
Application Processing
- Complete and submit Medicaid and other assistance program applications accurately and timely.
- Monitor submitted applications and follow up with state agencies regarding pending eligibility determinations.
- Maintain detailed notes and documentation regarding patient interactions and application status.
- Communicate eligibility outcomes and next steps to patients and hospital staff as appropriate.
- Ensure all applications are completed in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Accurately document all patient encounters and account activity in designated systems.
- Perform administrative duties including faxing, filing, emailing, scanning, and telephone communication.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, PATHS policies, client requirements, and healthcare regulations.
- Complete all required onboarding and ongoing training programs.
- Meet productivity, quality, and accuracy standards established by PATHS and the client facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous healthcare, patient advocacy, customer service, eligibility, registration, insurance verification, or financial counseling experience preferred.
- Experience assisting patients with Medicaid or government assistance programs preferred.
- Knowledge of EPIC or other healthcare software systems preferred.
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent walking throughout hospital units and patient care areas.
- Frequent interaction with patients in clinical and Emergency Department settings.
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to travel between assigned client sites as needed.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of applicable screenings consistent with federal, state, and local laws.

Because PATHS operates in the healthcare industry, certain screenings (including OIG/GSA exclusion checks and state Medicaid exclusion reviews) may be conducted on a recurring basis as required by federal and state laws, client contracts, and hospital compliance programs.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $18.00-$20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
