Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions, Inc. - Corporate Engineering Designer

 

Ergon is seeking a Corporate Engineering Designer to join our Pavement and Coating Resources (PCR) Engineering team. This position provides technical design support for capital projects, maintenance engineering initiatives, and construction activities across our operations. The successful candidate will develop and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Plant 3D while supporting engineers, project teams, and facility operations.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with drafting and design experience who are eager to develop their technical skills in industrial engineering design and facility documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain safety as the highest priority in all work activities.
• Develop and revise 2D drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Plant 3D.
• Prepare engineering documentation including:
  • P&IDs
  • Plot plans
  • Civil and structural drawings
  • Piping plans and sections
  • Isometric drawings
  • Tank and vessel drawings
• Conduct site visits and field data collection to support project development, field verification, and as-built documentation.
• Assist with FARO laser scanning activities and process scan data using FARO Scene software.
• Prepare material take-offs for project estimating and procurement.
• Maintain facility master drawings and engineering records.
• Assign and track line numbers, valve numbers, and drawing numbers according to company procedures.
• Review drawings and models for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
• Support project teams during design reviews, Management of Change (MOC) activities, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
• Assist engineers and senior designers with project development, equipment layouts, RFIs, and contractor support.
• Coordinate drawing information with internal teams and third-party engineering firms.
• Update drawings to reflect as-built conditions using verified field data.
• Participate in training opportunities and continuously develop technical and drafting skills.
• Support departmental objectives and identify opportunities for process improvement.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED
• 1-5 years of applicable experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to successfully complete a motor vehicle record check, drug screening, and background check.

Preferred

• Postsecondary certification or Associate Degree in Technical Drawing, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Plant 3D.
• Experience in industrial, structural, concrete, or piping construction environments.
• Familiarity with engineering and construction documentation standards.

Travel

Travel is typically 2-3 days per month and may include visits to operating facilities for field verification, laser scanning, project planning, and design support activities.
