Description
POSITION SUMMARY
•    The Designer works under minimal supervision while developing designs, complex layouts, and stack-ups of individual parts or assemblies.  The incumbent practices limited required judgment in their work.  The individual checks detail drawings and layouts. This includes producing detail drafting and other drafting related tasks as required. The incumbent continues any training of advanced CAD/CAM methods.

ORGANIZATIONAL POSITION
•    The Designer reports to the Manager of Design Engineering. The Designer typically does not have direct reports; however, they are technically responsible the design work they are completing. The position also involves interaction with individuals responsible for program timing, financials, manufacturing, electrical hardware and software, and quality. The designer will also interact with external teams and individuals, such as customers and suppliers, as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
•    Develop accurate complex designs, layouts, and stack-ups of individual parts or assemblies.
•    Check detail drawings and layouts, which includes producing detail drafting and other drafting related tasks as required.
•    Determine critical dimension and tolerance information by working with engineering personnel.
•    Perform maintenance of CAD/CAM files.  Continue training with advanced CAD/CAM methods and equipment and start and/or continues training with CAE methods and equipment.
•    Provide a smooth interchange of ideas and information between supervisor, engineers, and co-workers.  This requires maintaining daily personal contact with all facets of the function's operations and remaining aware of current progress.
•    Develop and maintain customer and internal guide files, drafting standards, work instructions, and other tools intended to enhance the efficiency and abilities of his/her Design Group.
•    Brainstorm new design concepts and assist in the creation and management of prototype BOM’s
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•    Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Design/Drafting is required.
•    Proficiency in CAD system NX is required.
•    Experience in the automotive industry is required. 
•    Ability to read and understand complex design drawings, layouts, stack-ups, verbal design instructions is required
•    Experience in advanced understanding of applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is required.
•    Interpersonal skills such as professional verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage technical details is required.
•    Being a team player and having good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines is required.
•    Ability to use common software like Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
•    Excellent communication skills required.
•    Experience in powertrain, driveline, and/or 4WD/AWD systems is preferred.
•    Understanding of various manufacturing processes is preferred, such as casting, molding, machining, and stamping.
•    Proficiency in CAD CATIA system is preferred.
•    Proficiency in TeamCenter is preferred.
•    Experience and/or training in DFM/DFA is preferred.
