In this role, the AV Support Technician provides technical assistance, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for the City’s audiovisual (AV) systems while providing Tier 1 technical support for computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices. This position serves as the primary support resource for audiovisual technology while assisting with desktop computing needs across City departments.
Examples of Duties:
- Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots audiovisual equipment, including displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, cameras, video conferencing equipment, presentation systems, digital signage, and related technology.
- Provides technical support for City meetings, training sessions, public events, and hybrid or virtual meetings.
- Performs preventative maintenance and routine testing of audiovisual equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Diagnoses and resolves audiovisual hardware, software, connectivity, and equipment issues.
- Installs or assists with installation of computer hardware and peripheral devices, including monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, docking stations, and external storage devices.
- Loads and configures operating systems, productivity software, security software, and other approved applications. Verifies proper system operation.
- Provides Tier 1 technical support to computer users through the Help Desk by resolving computer hardware, software, mobile device, printer, networking, and audiovisual support requests.
- Collects information regarding technical issues and enters associated data into the Help Desk ticketing system for assignment and tracking.
- Responds to client inquiries, diagnoses hardware and software issues, and performs corrective actions.
- Instructs users in the operation of audiovisual equipment, video conferencing technology, computers, and related software.
- Coordinates activities with the Help Desk, Information Technology staff, vendors, and service providers as needed.
- Maintains inventory of assigned audiovisual equipment and technology assets.
- Provides updates regarding work status and completed tasks to supervisors and end users.
- Replaces defective, inadequate, or obsolete audiovisual and computer equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (AA/AS) or equivalent, and two (2) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting audiovisual systems, including displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, cameras, digital signage, and video conferencing equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, or similar collaboration platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and related software.
- Knowledge of AV control systems such as Crestron, Extron, or similar technology is helpful.
