The Patient Care Assistant I is a Full Time, Project position expected to last approximately 4 months. Hours of work are 7am-3pm or 7am-3:30pm with a 30 minute lunch at the South Cowley Imaging Center.
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) I supports radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team in providing safe, efficient, high-quality patient care and maintaining effective departmental workflow in an outpatient-based setting. The PCA assists patients before, during, and after imaging examinations and procedures; prepares and maintains patient care and exam areas; assists clinical staff with patient positioning, and transport, supplies, documentation, and other support activities; and performs additional duties based on assigned modality, department, and location.
The PCA works in a fast-paced healthcare environment requiring excellent communication, organization, attention to detail, confidentiality, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and interruptions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Duties — All Modalities
- Escort and transport patients to and from exam, procedure, dressing, waiting, inpatient, Emergency Department, and other patient care areas as appropriate.
- Prepare patients for imaging examinations and procedures, including providing instructions, assisting with dressing and undressing, obtaining or assisting with required histories, forms, consents, and other information within the scope of the position.
- Assist radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other clinical staff with patient care, examinations, procedures, positioning, transfers, and other patient needs.
- Assist patients onto and off exam or procedure tables and assist with safe patient positioning and mobility as needed.
- Prepare, clean, disinfect, stock, and maintain exam rooms, procedure rooms, scan rooms, dressing rooms, patient care areas, equipment, stretchers, and supplies.
- Monitor and replenish departmental and patient care supplies and assist with supply ordering as assigned.
- Retrieve, organize, or otherwise assist with prior studies, reports, images, orders, referrals, laboratory results, and other information necessary for patient care and departmental workflow.
- Assist with patient scheduling, callbacks, appointment coordination, and other workflow activities as assigned.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with radiologists, technologists, nursing, scheduling, front office staff, reading room staff, and other departments to facilitate efficient patient care and workflow.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable infection prevention practices, hospital or facility codes, emergency procedures, and patient safety requirements.
- Use required computer systems, imaging applications, electronic health records, worklists, and other technology necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Assist with quality control activities, documentation, logs, records, and departmental administrative functions as assigned.
- Handle patient specimens, bodily fluids, contaminated materials, and other potentially infectious materials in accordance with established procedures and required precautions.
- Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition, potential reactions, emergencies, or other concerns to appropriate clinical personnel.
- Provide appropriate patient observation and support before, during, and following examinations or procedures within the scope of the position.
- Rotate between departments, modalities, locations, or shifts as operational needs require and perform other duties as assigned.
MODALITY/LOCATION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on assigned modality, department, and location, additional responsibilities may include:
Assisting with fluoroscopic, biopsy, interventional, contrast-enhanced, and other imaging procedures; preparing procedure trays, equipment, supplies, specimens, laboratory paperwork, consent forms, and discharge materials; assisting with IV removal as directed; obtaining vital signs under appropriate clinical supervision; assisting with post-procedure patient care; supporting sedated patients as directed; assisting with quality control activities; processing orders, referrals, authorizations, or procedure documentation; and performing other modality- or location-specific patient care and workflow functions for which the employee has been trained and deemed competent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There is little or no supervisory responsibility in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
One year of experience in a medical or patient care environment preferred. Knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, medical office practices, and diagnostic imaging procedures preferred.
Licensure
No licensure required.
Certifications
Current BLS/CPR certification required. No other certifications needed unless required by assigned location, facility, or specific duties.
Background Check
Candidates must successfully complete a background check pursuant to RCW 43.43.830–840 and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Background screening is conducted after a contingent written offer of employment and may be re-administered during the course of employment as permitted by law.
Drug Test
Must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test and submit to drug and/or alcohol testing during employment when there is an objectively reasonable basis for testing, in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.
