Join the team transforming care for people with immune challenges, rare diseases, cancers, and neurological conditions. In Specialty Care, you’ll help deliver breakthrough treatments that bring hope to patients with some of the highest unmet needs.

The Medical Director, Oncology is a senior medical leader within the Sanofi Specialty Care Canada Medical Affairs team. This role is the primary Canadian medical expert and scientific voice for oncology, responsible for defining and executing the medical affairs strategy that supports both the current approved and future products.

This individual will exercise strategic influence and scientific leadership across the organization. A key dimension of this role is a dotted-line relationship with the Field Medical Force (Medical Science Liaisons, Oncology), providing medical direction, scientific training, and ongoing support to ensure consistent, high-quality medical engagement with oncologists, hematologists, and other healthcare professionals across Canada.

This is a unique opportunity for a scientifically rigorous, strategically minded, and patient-focused medical professional to shape the future of oncology in Canada.

Main Responsibilities:

A. Medical Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and lead the Canadian medical affairs strategy for oncology, aligned with global and regional priorities
  • Develop and execute the Medical Affairs Plan (MAP) for oncology, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and patient access objectives
  • Serve as the Canadian medical expert and scientific voice for oncology across all internal and external forums
  • Contribute to lifecycle management strategies, clinical trial planning, and launch/expansion readiness activities
  • Provide medical input into brand planning, market access strategies, and reimbursement submissions (CDA, INESSS, provincial payers)

B. Field Medical Force Leadership & Support
(Dotted-Line Relationship)

  • Provide strategic medical direction and scientific oversight to the Field Medical Force (MSLs) covering oncology across Canada
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive medical training programs to ensure field teams maintain current, accurate, and compliant scientific knowledge in oncology
  • Support field teams in developing high-quality medical content, educational materials, and scientific discussion guides
  • Collaborate with field leadership on territory planning, account strategy, and KOL engagement priorities
  • Ensure consistency and quality of medical messaging across all field interactions with healthcare professionals
  • Provide ad-hoc medical support and guidance to field teams on complex clinical questions, challenging accounts, or emerging scientific data

C. Scientific Engagement & External Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), medical oncologists, hematologists, and other healthcare professionals across Canada
  • Lead and support advisory boards, scientific symposia, and medical education initiatives focused in oncology
  • Represent Sanofi at national and international oncology congresses (ASCO, ASH, ESMO, and others)
  • Engage with Health Canada, CDA, INESSS, and provincial payer bodies on scientific and medical matters related to oncology
  • Partner with patient advocacy organizations to ensure the patient voice is central to medical strategy and program design
  • Support clinical trial recruitment and patient engagement initiatives across Canada

D. Evidence Generation & Data Dissemination

  • Oversee the design and execution of local evidence generation activities, including investigator-initiated trials (IITs), registries, real-world evidence (RWE) studies, and patient-reported outcomes (PRO) research
  • Support Canadian participation in global registries and natural history studies
  • Ensure timely and compliant dissemination of clinical and scientific data through publications, congress presentations, and medical communications
  • Review and approve medical content (publications, slide decks, medical information responses, patient materials) for scientific accuracy, balance, and compliance
  • Contribute to the development of health economic and outcomes research (HEOR) to support market access and reimbursement submissions
  • undefined

E. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Patient Safety, and Patient Advocacy teams to ensure integrated, patient-focused strategies in oncology
  • Collaborate with global and regional Medical Affairs teams to align on priorities, share Canadian insights, and contribute to global medical strategy
  • Provide medical and scientific guidance to support reimbursement submissions, health technology assessments (HTAs), and patient access programs
  • Work with Oncology Patient Services teams to optimize patient support and access pathways for oncology patients
  • Support competitive intelligence and market analysis activities to inform medical and commercial strategy

F. Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all medical activities comply with Sanofi's internal policies, Health Canada regulations, Innovative Medicines Canada Code of Ethical Practices, and all applicable laws and standards
  • Champion a culture of ethics, integrity, patient safety, and transparency in all medical engagements
  • Ensure adherence to pharmacovigilance requirements and timely reporting of adverse events
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and evolving guidelines in oncology and hematology

  • Proven people management experience with a track record of building, developing, and inspiring high-performing teams
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian oncology landscape, including Health Canada regulations, HTA processes (CDA, INESSS), provincial reimbursement pathways, and patient access challenges

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working effectively across departments (e.g., commercial, regulatory, clinical) to align strategies, share knowledge, and deliver integrated solutions.

  • Empathy & Compassion: Demonstrating genuine understanding and care for the emotions and perspectives of colleagues, patients, and partners to foster trust and psychological safety.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and regulatory compliance in all professional activities and decision-making.
  • Data Insights & Evidence Generation: The ability to design, interpret, and communicate real-world evidence and clinical data to support medical strategies and inform healthcare decisions.
